| I've been playing the newest album a lot since it came out several months ago now. Still like it just as much. | |

| I'm starting to "get" Mastodon after simply respecting & appreciating them. Listening to The Hunter on Spotify and it's fantastic!! _________________ FINAL SIGN

Do you have Crack The Skye? It's a better album, IMHO

| I don't have any of them...that's why I'm on Spotify. I'll dial it up after The Hunter is over...I'm really digging it. _________________ FINAL SIGN

| I like Crack The Skye the best, though I've slowly grown to appreciate The Hunter. Blood Mountain is good as well, but I can't really get into the albums prior to that.

| That's basically me as well. Crack the Skye is their best, the Hunter is a grower, and Blood Mountain is good, but not instantly memorable like either of the others I've heard.
So far, I haven't tried to get into anything prior to Blood Mountain, but I probably should.

| As for stuff prior to Blood Mountain, I think Leviathan is amazing. I listen to that with regularity. I have never been a huge fan of Remission, although it is pretty decent. The compilation of earlier material, "Call of the Mastodon," is hit or miss but not too bad either.
The only thing they've done that I really don't care for is the Jonah Hex soundtrack. It has some promising riffs here and there, but it's incredibly repetitive and boring.

| I wasn't sure what to make of The Hunter at first, but it's steadily grown on me. I also think Crack the Skye is their best, although I do enjoy Leviathan and Blood Mountain as well. I would like Remission more if not for the barky vocals. | |

| I'm sticking with The Hunter, Crack the Skye and Blood Mountain for now. Right now, all 3 of those albums are aces in my book.
I might investigate further back in their catalog at some point, but I want to digest those 3 a little more first. And from what I heard, some of the vocals on their older work might be more harsh than I'd like. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. | As I was going backwards through their discography, I did notice that Blood Mountain wasn't as accessable on the first coupla spins. The other 2 I loved almost immediately, while Blood Mountain took a little more time to digest. I'm digging it now though the more times I spin it, so maybe Leviathon is on the purchase horizon sooner than later. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. | To me, Remssion and Leviathan sound much sludgier than the rest of their albums. To me, they don't have an album that isn't as good as the others with the exception of Remission, which is still really spankin' good.
