My first introduction to them was "Let's Have A War" on the Repo Man soundtrack from the Emilio Estevez film. Their album the record is the perfect picture of punk IMO.

Love 'em. The Record is one of my favorite punk albums and a desert island disc. Really a very talented and unique band, especially by punk standards, once you look past the tongue-in-cheek vulgarity.
The Record is essential. More Beer is a little over-produced (for punk anyway), but has some good songs nonetheless (superior versions can be heard on Live... for the Record). The rest of their stuff isn't as essential, but fun enough. Lee Ving is bad-ass.

Flea was a member for a short period in the early or mid '80s, I think before RHCP. I don't believe he recorded with them though.

I discovered them when GnR covered their song 'I Don't Care About You'. I had heard of them before, but never heard their music. John Belushi was suposedly a big fan of theirs and hung out with them quite a bit in NYC shortly before he died.
I bought the The Record to check them out and hear the original. Kept it for a few years, but eventually ditched it from lack of play. I always liked this song though...

I like Fear but always thought they were a bit overrated. I always preferred groups like the Circle Jerks, DI (very underrated IMO), and the Dickies. That said, The Record is pretty much mandatory for any punk collection.

When I raced downhill , they were a staple in the so. calif. skateboard scene of the late 70's early 80's. My other hobby, playing drums.....kinda.sorta took over and I quit racing.
