Hiya everybody, I'm the author of the list! Thanks Scott for posting the list on the forum, as you rightly said it's all a matter of opinion right? Anno, bands like Testament or Heathen should also be there... but hey, it's only 20 right? Tankard and Xentrix are also worth mentioning when it comes to European thrash. And yes, in case you're wondering, Metallica and Megadeth are not there because they're good bands but in my humble opinion these albums absolutely own!

A couple things I'd like to point out folks:

- The list is "in no particular order" (some said he was surprised that the Flotsam album was first)

- With some bands, it could've been other albums as well. Yep, "Ultra-Violence" could've perfectly been there instead of "Act III". Or "Horrorscope" and "Years of Decay" instead of "Under the Influence".

- I think Thanatos is downright thrash... mmmh there's some death metal there, but they sound very European thrash to me. This album sounds just a little dated but it still makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck!

I grew up on thrash metal guys. I love my old school albums and re-visit them very often.

Scott, the only copy I have of the Puppet album is the remastered version that I got from you guys. It's a terrific album and it simply inspires me. That's why it's there. It's that good bud.

Oh, if you actually check on the link you can also surf through the website and listen to my band, Nephwrack, which I sing for. We just put out our second album and we're fairly known in the south of England, where I live. So far we've played with bands like Evile, Wolf, Firewind... and we're getting rave reviews for this new album. We play heavy metal with a current touch and a fair sprinkling of thrash here and there. Scott has checked out the songs on the website and we seem to have gained a new fan, which is totally cool.

Stay heavy folks, and I'm happy that at least you found my list interesting!!

Thrash forever!

\m/

That's cool, man.... So I assume this was the infamous Craiglist? Laughing

Essentials from this list, according to me:

2. Annihilator: "Never, Neverland"
6. Kreator: "Terrible Certainty"
10. Sabbat: "Dreamweaver"
12. Anthrax: "Among The Living"
14. Nuclear Assault: "Handle With Care"

I'd still pick "Survive" over "Handle With Care", it's just sooo much better. "Fabulous Disaster" will always be my Exodus pick too, Bonded and Pleasures are good, but they hit GOLD with that one.

I only own "Handle With Care" Very Happy

It's all a matter of opinion. What would your Top 20 be?

1 SLAYER - Reign in blood
2 EXODUS - Bonded by blood
3 FEAR OF GOD - Within the veil
4 DÈTENTE - Recognize no authority
5 METALLICA - Kill 'em all
6 FLOTSAM & JETSAM - Doomsday for the deceiver
7 MEGADETH - Peace sells
8 METALLICA - Ride the lightning
9 MEGADETH - Rust in peace
10 ANTHRAX - Spreading the disease
11 HALLOWS EVE - Tales of terror
12 DEATH ANGEL - Act III
13 HALLOWS EVE - Death and insanity
14 SACRAMENT - Haunts of violence
15 SLAYER - Seasons in the abyss
16 CORONER - No more colour
17 DEATH ANGEL - The ultra-violence
18 DEVASTATION - Idolatry
19 HOLY MOSES - Finished with the dogs
20 OVERKILL - Feel the fire

Posting the list, I realize there is actually one concordance - DEATH ANGEL - Act III

Here's a list I did back in 2007:
ultmetal wrote:
1. Metallica - Kill 'Em All (the one
that started it all for me!)
2. Vengeance Rising - Human Sacrifice (few can match it's raw power! Obviously one of my all time favorites and a huge influence on me personally!)

3.
TIE:
Anthrax
- Spreading the Disease
Overkill
- Taking Over
(two of the soundtracks of my youth!)

4. Metallica - Ride the Lightning
5. Exodus - Fabulous Disaster
6. Testament - Practice What You Preach
7. Dark Angel - Leave Scars
8. Anthrax - Among the Living
9. Megadeth - Peace Sells...

10. TIE:
Deliverance
- s/t
Deliverance
- Weapons of our Warfare
(both equally great IMO)

11. Dark Angel - Time Does Not Heal
12. Megadeth - Rust in Peace
13. Believer - Extraction from Mortality
14. Voivod - Killing Technology
15. Nuclear Assault-Survive!
16. Kreator - Terrible Certainty

17. Hirax - New Age of Terror (this is one newer thrash album that has
become one of my all time favorites.)

18. Sodom -Code Red
19. Death Angel - Frolic Through the Park
20. Overkill - Under the Influence

A few of my newer favorites:
Havok - Burn
Vektor - Black Future

Disaffection - Begin the Revolution

"How Will I Laugh" is a great record, but I think I prefer Lights, Camera, Revolution by just a smidge.

Yeah, and you're right about the DK cover on there too.

And it's nice to see some other S.T. fans here..They're my all time favorite group. Id have to give 'How Will I Laugh' a little bit of an edge over 'Lights, Camera', but they're like 1a and 1b to me.

I wouldn't disagree with that. I've been singing Havok's praises for quite some time. It's among my favorites of the year. Time will tell how it holds up.

I like all the Ultimatum albums, but you guy's really stepped it up with that one. The production, heaviness, vocals, and the solos improved greatly. I count the song Into The Pit as one of my top metal instrumentals.

I know these are obvious choices, but since Slayer and Anthrax are listed, why no Metallica and Megadeth? No Testament or Forbidden? Come on.

Unless this is just a random list, then those bands should have at least one if not more albums on it.

Those Xentrix albums cost me $15 each used but they have been reissued from what I understand. I highly suggest them, a VERY good and underrated thrash band.

That's my second favorite ST album (first being Art Of Rebellion) and contains one of my favorite songs, Send Me Your Money.
