Anyone checked out Holy Grail, the band formed by the members of White Wizzard who were canned after their EP? Any good?

I wasn't that impressed by it on it's initial run. Decent enough while it's on, but pretty forgettable once it's over. I had high hopes because I really liked that White Wizzard ep.
I shelved it after a few spins and coincidently, just brought it into work with me this week to give it another go. Maybe a fresh spin will give me a new impression.

Cool. Let me know what you think.
I really like the EP as well. Sort of has an early Iron Maiden meets Diamond Head with a nod to early Def Leppard sound.

Both bands are amazing. Holy Grail definitely has a few Metalcore influenced parts in their music, but if you can handle that, you are in for quite a fun album. I would recommend buying it as soon as possible!
Also, see them live if you get the chance. They put on a really high energy show.

Really? I'm hardly an expert on what defines metalcore, but I'm not hearing that at all. What specifically? This sounds like part of the New Wave of Traditional Heavy Metal to my ears.

It's only in a few tracks. The ending to both My Last Attack and Crisis in Utopia have that weird riffing style. Cherish Disdain is another track that reminds me of Metalcore. Also, the harsh vocals don't help their case. I don't mind them, because they do work, but it is the kind of thing that a Metalcore band would do.
I do agree that they are a Traditional/Speed Metal band though.

Eh, I'll have to take your word for it. I'm no musician, so "weird riffing" woudn't be noticed by me. Now that you mention it though, I hear what you're talking about on that 'Cherish' song. The harsher screams are sorta buried behind the "clean" vocals there.
I'm usually pretty critical when it comes to the vocals that I listen to, so they must work ok enough in the music if they don't raise a red flag to me.
Fair enough. Carry on.

If that's the band I remember, they opened for Blind Guardian and I wasn't too impressed by their set.

Ult, they are great. Superb clean vocals and a shred guitarist. The band members have said in interviews that they wanted to take the shred of Paul Gilbert and lay that over Death Metal riffing with a traditional vocalist. The result is powerful, catchy traditional metal.
If you like White Wizzard you will like them.

Thanks for posting the video. Not sure why I don't think to just look on YouTube. Shows my age I guess.
Anyhow, that particular song is very different from the traditional heavy metal and NWOBHM influenced White Wizzard. Holy Grail sound a lot like they are going for a more power metal sound. I don't mean this to sound negative, but when I first played the video, the first band that came to mind was Dragonforce, perhaps due to the fast shredding.

I didn't really mean that as something negative. It's just that speed and those fast solos. Actually, I like what I heard and will be adding them to my want list. It's definitely less "traditional heavy metal" than White Wizzard and a little closer to modern power metal like Hammerfall or Dragonforce IMO.

Avenged Sevenfold. That's who I thought of on many of the tracks and I liked it. I like Holy Grail quite a bit more than White Wizzard (too generically retro to be interesting, IMO). Or at least more than what WW has released so far, I have hope for the new album.

Both bands are good!

I think I'm leaning in that direction as well. I spun Holy Grail numerous times yesterday and while I enjoy it while it's on, it's forgettable when it's off. Somethings missing, but I'm not sure what it is. Hooks? White Wizzard is catchier or something.

I like this track more than the first one released. It hit me more immediately.
I really love these guys' first two albums, and based off what I've heard so far, I see myself enjoying this new one at the very least.
