I'm sure I saw their albums back in the day, but I'm pretty sure I never actually heard any of 'em tho....

Maybe that is one of the hazards of d/l-ing metal ... that it doesn't have time to absorb.
I liked this band when I first heard them but it took me time to love them (like my love for FATES WARNING).
I can't think of many traditional metal bands that I think are superior to WARLORD. Maybe a dozen or two max. Certainly not garbage like SYMPHONY X or whatever is lauded in most circles these days.
I really don't understand a comment like that. Symphony X is as compareable to Warlord as fish are to hamburgers. I like both bands though. And how nayone can label a talented band like S X is beyond me.

Choose lesser known 80's band + pile on over-hyped praise + choose current band to ridicule = typically nonsensical post

Finally listened to the Best Of Warlord comp today. I quite like them and they were doing some interesting things way back in the day. Nice classical influences and a Geddy Lee type vocalist with some catchy, progressive tunes. What's not to like? I do prefer other bands from the early Metal Blade roster but Warlord was a good one. I also dislike Opeth and Sympony X but I'm not sure how they fit in here nor would I even compare those three bands.

They can play very well but their songs are not in the same league as WARLORD. I place songwriting over playing ability.
These two bands can be compared under the same giant umbrella of "power metal", or what passes for it these days.
If either of the two bands is overrated, it is certainly SYMPHONY X.
BTW, who mentioned OPETH here? What do they have to do with anything?

Those songs are certainly more memorable than the average Opeth tune, although I am not saying they don't have their own unique merits.
You did.

Still just your opinion. Symphony X writes great songs, your ears just don't recognize it.

Granted that none of these bands play power metal..... S X play prog-metal, and Warlord is traditional metal or perhaps epic metal.....

Well, certainly the term "power metal" has a lot of variety in it and also is a bit controversial (many consider flower metal to be power metal) so you can come up with your own terms if you like. Also, not sure which bands would be considered "epic metal".

Blind guardian Turisas Sigh Bal-Sagoth Orphaned Land These bands were the first that came to mind.

I guess that makes sense. I don't listen to most of those bands though, so I guess that is why that genre hasn't popped up on my radar.

Well, looky here!! Finally I'll be able to own more Warlord!
For Immediate Release:
It's been 5 months since the last Arkeyn Steel Records release and the time has come to announce our new signings which will come out in 2012. Arkeyn Steel Records, mainly focused on US Steel, always tries to release music from the best and most important bands of the '80s and '90s, bands that have written their own golden chapter in the book of Heavy Metal. One huge step closer to this target was made by the re-release of "One Small Voice", the second masterpiece of HEIR APPARENT from Seattle, Washington.
Now almost one year later to this release and among other great releases, Arkeyn Steel is taking the next big step releasing the entire back catalog of the most inspired and important band from the USA, a real legend, THE legend, WARLORD from Los Angeles, California. A double Anthology CD featuring everything that the band has officially recorded. The "Deliver Us" Mini-LP from 1983, the "And The Cannons Of Destruction Have Begun" album from 1984 and the "Rising Out of the Ashes" album from 2002. The bonus material will be the "Mrs. Victoria" track from the Japanese edition of "Deliver Us", the Out Of Print "Lost And Lonely Days / Aliens 12" single, the "Hands And Feet (Thunderchild's Farewell)" instrumental from the "Thy Kingdom Come" compilation, plus the "Lost and Lonely Days" track from the Japanese edition of "Rising Out of the Ashes". The Anthology includes everything from the band's official recordings, fully remastered from the very time and packed with exclusive artwork, photos, lyrics and info. In addition to this, the first 300 of the 1000 hand-numbered copies of this double CD, will be packed with a book featuring the band's official biography full of details, along with information and photos never before available to the public provided by William J Tsamis himself. WARLORD - Anthology double CD will be out in April 2012 (Keep It True Fest).

Symphony X WROTE great songs back in the day; Twilight in Olympus,Divine Wings of Tragedy and The Damnation Game were great albums.
And Warlord indeed are amazing and underrated.

Always liked the band. This is a somewhat sad yet powerful song. Not sure how many albums they released. I know they played Waken in 2002.
