I love Ron Paul. I love how he breaks down Weiner's situation better than anyone I've heard since he was brought up earlier in another thread:

Weiner really did himself in by not admitting to it at first.

The jokes about this guy just write themselves.
One of the best comments I read about on Yahoo about this story was "Weiner pulls out".
What a maroon. Regardless of your party affiliations, I think most have to admit that this guy is beyond-the-pale dumb.

yeah - he really didnt have the last name to go being caught doing this. I dont get what makes people (regardless of party) think that because they are politicians, they can go doing all this absurd stuff...

They get this untouchable, power complex that makes them think they can't get caught. It's a natural human reaction to think "it won't happen to me," Hell, talk to any teenager! But this goes beyond that. It's more like, "because of who I am, I CAN'T get caught." It happens in both parties, and to all types of public figures. Celebrities, major CEOs, etc.

I actually Had huge amounts of respect for him, if only Obama had the conviction about things as Weiner did maybe we would be someplace.

Basically, my view on the current political climate (and this hasn't changed in my lifetime):
"if an individual reaches a level of power where they can attain political office; they have already done too many horrible things for me to respect them"
That one sentence saves me ALL kinds of time on political threads.

It was a joke. Too bad a decent politician is taken down by a stupid act like that. It puts him in a bad light and damages his character. Why anyone in that position would put himself in that situation is a real head scratcher.

yep. One would have thought the whole Brett Farve thing would have taught people something. I dont care for Weiner's politics but I do think it is a shame that his career was affected. I get that people question his thinking because this was a conscious effort to take the image and send it. One has to wonder what made him think he wouldnt get caught...

IMO, this wouldn't have been an issue if it weren't for those who get overstimulated by the 24 hour news cycle this country operates on. To prove my point I will use Ted Kennedy and Chappaquiddick as an example. He continued on until he died in '09 and he all but murdered someone with his bare hands! Anthony Weiner takes some pictures and people can't believe he would do such a horrible thing. Whatever.

What do you mean with his bare hands? Ted drove his Oldsmobile into a channel with passenger. I'm not trying to exonerate the guy, as he should have done some time in prison. But, he didn't murder Mary Jo Kopechne. At most, Ted definitely should have been charged with manslaughter. With that being said, there's a big difference between outright murder and manslaughter.

I believe had Weiner fessed up right away instead of all the denials, this would not have snowballed into what it eventually became. It was pretty clear he did the deed and his attempt to cover it up turned it from a smoldering issue into a firestorm. He made of all kinds of media blunders on this one - he really should have let his people handle it instead of doing it himself.
