- Hey Wargod,
Are you plugging this turntable directly into a amp? I still have my stereo that I purchased in the early 90's that I have painstakingly taken care of and still works great. I am using a Kenwood Stereo receiver.
I also have my original 80's Technics Quartz Direct Drive turntable. I had a few extra needles/cartridges, which I am now out of. Thinking of just getting a new turntable and the Audio-Technica AT-LP120-USB Record Turntable. Will it work?
Also, did you replace the needle/cartridge in your new Audio-Technica turntable? Ult, that turntable comes with a built in pre-amp. I have that turntable too and WF is correct, it has a built in pre-amp. I use the preamp and plug right into my Denon home theater receiver (in the video AUX inputs)
I replaced the cartridge with this one: http://www.amazon.com/Shure-M97xE-High-Performance-Magnetic-Cartridge/dp/B00006I5SB/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1336653044&sr=8-1
So then it should work plugged into receiver into the turntable input.
What's the point of the pre-amp?
That's the one thing I hate about buying things on-line is you can't physically see it. Ult, here's a great review of that turntable: http://www.soundadviceblog.com/reviews/audio-technica-at-lp120-usb-turntable-a-real-find-at-200/ It should answer most of your questions as that guy is very thorough and knowledgeable.

In your case, you can use just use your receiver since it probably does the RIAA equalization. I think they added it since new receivers don't have a turntable plug in with the RIAA EQ, so with it onboard you can just plug into any jack on the receiver
