Not sure if this is the proper forum for this or not, but I'm seriously thinking about buying a new turntable. Currently, I only have one album, KISS - Best of the Solo Albums, but I really want to start collecting vinyl again. I was considering the Pioneer PL-990, but thought I'd check with ya'll because I know some of you collect vinyl. So for those of you who do, what kind of turntable do you have/recommend? Thanks.

This can be useful for me too.

I have one of those combo packs you get on TARGET and those chain stores. and once some people came to change the wall of my room; all of my room was covered with dust, so the needle of my turntable got ruined. The bad thing is that the company doesn't sell replacement needles.

SO:
Don't buy a turntable cd/radio combo
Buy a turntable that you know you can replace the needle

I have a really cheap turntable, but it works fine for me. Just get one that you can hook up to an AUX jack in your stereo system, and listen to powermacho, get one where you can replace the needle.

I got one of those ION turntables that you can hook up to a stereo or your computer so you can make mp3s. I barely use it but I do have some records that I bought just to collect. I never understood the appeal of vinyl. The constant crackling sounds, its not portable, theyr too fragile, one false move with that needle and you ruined the whole record. oh and my biggest gripe is trying to skip songs. The only good thing about them is the artwork otherwise I wouldn't really buy a record.

Man it all comes down to how much you want to spend of course & how serious you want to get with vinyl. I mean I have a center weight a nitty gritty record cleaner & I have a Rega P3 turntable with an Ortofon Stylus 30 needle, I'm very very happy with my turntable. I have only had it for about a year and a bit, when I started to get back into vinyl. Watch it man it's additicve Turntables 201269 Turntables 201269 Turntables 201269 but it sounds sssoooooooooo much better IMO. Hope this helps

I hear ya!!!! A lot of people claim they sound better, but I disagree - it sounds "fuzzy" to me - along with the snap, crackle and pop - I want that in my breakfast cereal, not my music! And this is with a good turn table (I have a JVC, good needle, good sound)

I'm sure it is, my wife is like, "oh no". But anyway, thanks to all for the advice and recommendations. I'm not planning on spending too much, less than two hundred bucks. If I really get into it, maybe I'll upgrade.

I have albums purchased in the 70's that don't "snap crackle or pop". All depends on how you take care of your toys I suppose ? A good turntable is a start but you have to have a good amp as well. A tube amp/tuner blows away any solid state model. Speakers made for the system you have makes a difference as well. The wattage is not as important as the # of ohms pulling from each speaker per channel. I prefer the "warm" capture of actual sound via analog than the compressed copy of sound via digital.

Just like an old Marshall 700 head with the tubes blows away any solid state guitar amp (IMHO)

There are some LP'S that I used to enjoy listen. Like TWISTED SISTER, SWEET,BLOODGOOD, ARMORED SAINT and other traditional heavy metal bands. But if you put some thrash metal or more modern metal into LP'S it wont sound as good.

My point is that the albums that were recorded before CD'S came up, sound better on LP since most of them got bad mixes on CD, like TWISTED SISTER and BLOODGOOD.

So yeah it is worth the try Turntables 11840

I got an old Aiwa turntable - it was part of a component system, but the cassette deck and CD changer crapped out so I got rid of the other parts and just kept the turntable. Of course, I have nothing to hook it up to at the moment so it's kinda useless. I am having a yard sale this weekend and I was just thinking about throwing it out there with a $10 price tag to see if anyone wants it.

I don't own a turntable (although I did not long ago) or a great deal of records tbh. The few vinyls I've picked up are just for collection purposes and so far are all by The Darkness Turntables Lol
