I love alot of 80's music but I also loved alot of bands that most members of this board loathed such as Soundgarden, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam and other bands that were alot less popular and honestly liked better then most of the metal bands of the 80's
plus, the 90's were awesome if you were into death metal, black metal & hardcore.
100% agree and it was in the early 90's that I saw some of best death metal shows in my area such as Morbid Angel, Obituary, and tons of others, alot of them now forgotten unless you saw them live

Going with the 80's here.
Don't get me wrong - there is some great stuff in the 90's but the 80's were special.

The '80s was definitely the best era for metal, although the '90s did have its moments.

Every decade is great; but since my 15 to 25 years of age occured in the eighties, and they laid the foundation for most of my tastes, I have to go with the big 8 0.

Well, my favorite styles of metal are thrash, speed, and traditional metal so that is obviously why I like the '80s best. There were still quite a few excellent thrash albums in '90-'91, and I also like some of the death metal albums from that period. I think around '92-'93 a new era of metal was beginning, and a lot of the styles that evolved since then don't quite cut it for me. There were still some cool albums after that, but the '80s was metal's golden era for sure. When people ask me what kind of music I'm into, I think I'm more likely to say "old-school metal" than say "metal".

The 1980s.
By 1993 I was sick and tired of pretty much the same copycat trends in music , especially in metal and hardcore, and I especially disliked Pantera, grunge and rap.
The ONLY metal after '93 I bought were new Megadeth albums.
The only good music I had was either on classic rock radio stations, or my old tapes & vinyl ... until the late 90s when finally I was re-introduced to the underground again, discovering new bands that knew how to play heavy metal, black metal, and thrash metal that made sense to me.
