Its not too bad, it doesn't compare to the Roth era at all... but still a decent album.

| I heard it once or twice years ago. Didn't do a darn thing for me. I felt kinda bad for Gary Cherone after all the backlash to that album, cuz I met him years ago while he was still in Extreme and he was a heckuva nice guy. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. | |

| Not that bad. It does lack trademark the background vocals of Michael Anthony. My favorite track on there is "Once", | |

| It's pathetic that Cherone got all the flack for that album's lack of success. He didn't write the damn songs! Blame Eddie. And the album is definitely not as bad as people claim, it's actually pretty good.
And Gary Cherone is the best singer Van Halen has ever had. |

| I hear Michael Anthony on it...that along w/ Al's drum tones make it sound like VH to me...along with the solos, of course. I rememeber Sammy saying he heard most of that music when he was in the band...he kept turning it down or wanting Ed to change some of it...Ed didn't have Sammy there as a buffer, so some of the songs are a little long for Van Halen & tend to ramble a bit...but there are some really good songs in there too...Cherone wrote all the lyrics & vocal melodies, if I recall correctly... |

| According to Wikipedia, Michael Anthony is only on 3 songs on Van Halen III. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Anthony#Diminishing_role_within_Van_Halen_.281998-2006.29 The only song I hear him on is "Without You" for background vocals. | |

| I remember getting an advance copy in work before it was available in stores. I listened to it once or twice, thought it was horrible and never heard it again. I see it in the used bins I frequent all the time and occassionally pick it up, thinking that maybe I'll give it another chance, but then something else catches my eye. With so many other decent cd's out there, I just don't see the point in picking it up. Cherone's a decent enough singer I guess. I wasn't an Extreme fan, but I heard alot of their songs. I'm guessing he was just a victim of poor material from VH. | |

The only song I hear him on is "Without You" for background vocals. I did not know that. I knew about his fued with the VH bros after the 2004 tour...but nothing before that... |

Decent? One of the best rock vocalists out there! He really is a great, great singer. I wonder, do you think fans—maybe even some of you—convinced themselves beforehand that the album was going to be bad, simply because Cherone was singing? I mean, when Sammy came into the fold all the Roth fans declared Van Halen to now be a mighty turd. It took a while, but I think a lot of those fans came around. There's still a division, I think, between those that like Roth better, and those that like Hagar better, of course, but would Cherone have come to be accepted by fans had VH not imploded? Would this album he sang on still be considered a monumental turd if the band were three or four albums deep with Cherone now? |

I've talked myself into not liking lp's after hearing the first track for the first time. Or Extreme for that matter, I hated them. My mind was made up. Van Halen is a joke, so much potential, WAY to much ego. AS FOR ME, IN HAGAR I TRUST:metal:

| Van Halen 3 sucks and i've never liked anything Gary Cherone participated on. He is not one of the best singer's let alone Van Halen's best. Roth is not technical but he was the best for Van Halen. His voice had charisma and he was fun to listen to, not boring and serious like the others. | |

He may have not been the best vocalist for Van Halen, but in terms of vocal ability, he is clearly the best out of the three. |

| I thought Van Halen III was good, but I'm not sure if Gary was a good fit for the band. I know he was choosen in part due to his ability and willingness to sing songs from both era's. All in all the guitar work is top notch, but many of the songs lacked that little "something". My favorite song is Ballot or the Bullet. Eddie really hit it on that one. | |

| That's great for you i guess. You could be entertained at any boring garage band's show. Prancing around has been in rock since the early days. For the record i think entertainers like Prince and DLR etc, are/were very important to the era they came from. | |

| Finally gave this one a good listen. It's not great, but it's not nearly as bad as people say it is. I honestly think that Gary's mature lyrics are just so different from the "reach down between my legs..." type of lyrics that band is known for that people just couldn't deal with it. There are actually a few decent songs on this album IMO. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

I do not think it is horrid as folks say either and it features some of Eddie Van Halen's best leads in years but I have two issues with the album. 1) IMO I think this album has some of Van Halen's worst songs in their discography and also, while I think it was cool that Gary Cherone was trying to broaden their lyrics, I do not feel the lyrics where all together successful 2) IMO it seems that they had Gary Cherone try to ape Hagar's vocal approach, which makes me wonder why they fired Hagar in the first place.
