A lot of the first Cinderella album fits that bill, too.
Yep. I think AC/DC is the most "cloned" band out there.
More to add to the AC/DC list:
Dirty Looks Sideburn Mainline Riders (2nd one)
...and I don't care because I love that style.
Even Accept (on their first album) sounded like AC/DC.

You kiddin' me? Other than the Deep Purple cover tune, Primal Fear's debut CD is practically SON OF PAINKILLER... with a German accent. Hell, make that their second and third CDs too.

Not only that. The first three are totally Painkiller and Priest inspired. Listen to the "Nuclear Fire" album - this is Painkiller with some extra choruses added here and there.

I forget which song it is, but there's even a track on NUCLEAR FIRE where they totally steal the opening drum workout from Priest's "Hell Patrol."

That would be "Kiss Of Death". To drive this point even further - it's also the second song on Nuclear Fire - same as Hell Patrol on Painkiller.

Yeah, that's the one. They're blatant little buggers. Hell, Ralf Scheepers even borrowed Halford's hair (or should I say, lack of hair) style.
I still dig Primal Fear though.

The first track is. But the rest of the tracks are much more similar to other Euro-flower metal acts of the time.
If there had been more songs like "Chainbreaker" on there then I might actually be a PF fan.

Some of the Primal Fear really has that "Painkiller" sound. I don't think they are clones, but I can hear the influence for sure.
Ultimatum being pegged an Exodus clone was one that really bugged me when we first started. I didn't really get the comparison at all. However, one day I was playing the live version of "Piranha" and my wife asked, "what Ultimatum song is that?" She just couldn't believe it wasn't us. I think it's as much from the vocals as anything else. I can say we have never, ever tried to be a clone of anyone.
Avenger of Blood had more than just Kreator as their influence. I heard Slayer, Sodom and even some death metal influences, especially in Shannon's drum work.

I think he meant "Screaming for Vengeance"-era Priest. That I could agree with.

When I first read about Ultimatum in the RadRockers catalog years ago, it described 'em as "similar to Overkill, Exodus, and AC/DC." Sounded like an odd combo to me but at least it made me curious enough to buy a copy of PUPPET OF DESTRUCTION!!

Not a bad description really since we generally do mix together a lot of thrash and classic metal influences.
As for Temple of Blood, I remember hearing their first CD and thinking it had a nice mix of styles. From my review, "I'd say they were a mixture of bands like Toxik, Realm, Nasty Savage and perhaps a bit of Mercyful Fate and Judas Priest."

That's not a bad description of our first disc although I think we had a bit more fast thrash on there than that description might indicate. And we're certainly not a clone of AGENT STEEL! Our second is pretty different than that description and our new one will be even more different than that one.

I actually compared Temple Of Blood to Realm and the first Forbidden album coupled with some classic Mercyful riffs to my friend when reccomending him some new US bands. This was when I only knew the first album.

It was mainly the "Overkill" comparison that made me pull the trigger on it, cuz I'm an Overkill fanboy.

I love all those bands so there's probably some influence there (or those bands have common influences to mine).
"Overlord" was much crunchy/thrashy and less old school US power metal and "A Show of Force" is different as well and I think will be more difficult to categorize.

Overlord struck me as more having an old Flotsam And Jetsam vibe and even some Defiance here and there.

Some of these are bizarre choices. Like...Skinlab and Machine Head? Never! But others I think have more to do with the vocals than others, like Ultimatum and Exodus/Overkill or Communic and Nevermore. Those bands, to me, have one glaring similarity, not necessarily clones.
Anyway, how about Scum of the Earth and White Zombie/Rob Zombie. Dude was in Rob Zombie's band, then leaves it and forms a band that's named after a Zombie song, has artwork and lyrics just like Zombie's, and the dude even dresses and sings like him. Music is nearly identical, too. It's insane!
Everything about that bands screams clone.

Does artwork count...
First Whitesnake steals their title (Forever More), now Darkest Hour swipes their artwork. Everyone wants to be Tesla.
