- Celtic Frost, Lazz Rockit and Voivod are thrash?
Even if i didnt put any of this 3 bands on my fave thrash metal list i still have to give my opinion:D. LAAZ ROCKIT after NO STRANGER TO DANGER with albums like KNOW YOUR ENEMY or ANNIHILATION PRINCIPLES started to put thrash metal influences in their music and went away from their early US METAL sound and look. Still, the voice of the singer have never been pure thrash metal and some of their riffs were more us power metal but still they had many thrash metal influences and those albums are known by many people being thrash metal records. VOIVOD started like a THRASH METAL band with their first two albums but later started to experiment more and more. Also CELTIC FROST had many thrash influences in their music and people know them for being a thrash metal band. I would say black-thrash band but black metal from the first wave of black metal of course, not much in common with the second wave of black metal that came out in the late 80s early 90s with bands like DARKTHRONE, IMPALED NAZARENE or BEHERIT for exemple. | |

| It's pretty much going to be all 'Tallica for me. 1) Master Of Puppets, Metallica 2) (the black album), Metallica (not as thrash as most of the other material on This List). 3) ...And Justice For All, Metallica 4) Ride The Lightning, Metallica 5) Kill 'Em All, Metallica 6) Live Sh*t: Binge And Purge, Metallica (yes, it's live, but it's so great). 7) Reign In Blood, Slayer |

| 1-SLAYER-Reign In Blood (1986) 2-METALLICA-Master Of Puppets (1986) 3-MEGADETH-Peace Sells...But Who's Buying? (1986) 4-NUCLEAR ASSAULT-Game Over (1986) 5-ONSLAUGHT-In Search Of Sanity (1989) 6-ANTHRAX-Among The Living (1987) 7-DARK ANGEL-Darkness Descends (1986) 8-EXODUS-Fabulous Disaster (1989) 9-KREATOR-Extreme Aggression (1989) 10-OVERKILL-Under The Influence (1988) 11-HALLOW'S EVE-Death & Insanity (1986) 12-FORBIDDEN-Forbidden Evil (1988) 13-DELIVERANCE-Weapons Of Our Warfare (1990) 14-BELIEVER-Extraction From Mortality (1989) 15-DESTRUCTION-Infernal Overkill (1985) 16-POSSESSED-Seven Churches (1985) 17-LAAZ ROCKIT-Annihilation Principle (1989) 18-RIGOR MORTIS-Rigor Mortis (1988) 19-TESTAMENT-The Legacy (1987) 20-WHIPLASH-Ticket To Mayhem (1987) Ya know...it's kind of difficult to really devise my "perfect" list because there were just so many amazing Thrash records back then. About half my list would always stay the same no matter what, but the other half could change depending on the day of the week, or the mood that I was in. Not only that, but some bands had 2 or 3 records that could very easily have made it, like OVERKILL, METALLICA, MEGADETH, SLAYER, ANTHRAX, KREATOR, DESTRUCTION, DELIVERANCE, etc. Plus, there were some really obscure bands out there that put out some amazing Thrash. They could have been included as well. Then you can get into the "nit-picking" stuff, such as the fact that I really favor "Spreading The Disease" slightly more than "Among The Living" overall, but I just think that riff-wise and delivery-wise, "Among" thrashes more. It's more "full-blown" Thrash, if you will. In the case of a band such as KREATOR, I prefer their rawer '86-'87 style more, but I think "Extreme Aggression" is just a masterpiece, even if slightly more polished. With ONSLAUGHT, I used to favor "The Force" until they changed pace and put out what I consider perhaps the most underrated Thrash record ever in "In Search Of Sanity." This was England's version of METALLICA. It was "state of the art" Speed/Thrash. The riffing was extremely tight and fast, excellent musicianship, great vocals, and highly intelligent lyrics. Just cue up the song "Powerplay" and LET RIP!!! Beware, though, you may end up ripping your living room to shreds after raging-out to this stuff! There is no filler material here, unless you conside the "Asylum" intro as unnecessary. They have several songs that seemed to be based off METALLICA's '86-'88 ideas, not so much in a copy-cat sort of way, but just in a well-written, top-notch Thrash-terpiece way. If you listen to "Welcome To Dying" you can sense a "Sanitarium" vibe going on, for instance. Anyway, enough yacking already...lol |
