I think America COULD BE. It is my #2 favorite metal country after all (under Germany). Same thing can be said for Germans unfortunately. The GAMA-catalogue and lots of lesser band are essentially typical copycats of either the teutonic speed style of just Accept-clones on crack. Of course America is to blame too as they produced countless acts but I think that America can surely compete. After all - it is the birthplace of two rather unique types of metal - epic metal (Brocas Helm, Manowar, Manilla Road, Cirith Ungol) and power/thrash (Metal Church, Heretic etc.). I would say Manilla Road and Cirith Ungol alone get America a headstart - such unique and amazing bands that bleed METAL.

nah, Manilla Road, ManowaR, Metal Church always felt natural and real to me. Liege Lord, things like that. I mean more all the bands that feel like they HAVE to sound like old Fates Warning mixed with old Testament...they just ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO because to NOT COMPLETELY RETREAD EVERYTHING TO THE POINT OF PLAGIARISM is UTTERLY UNTR00 AND FALSE. I think America has become better for progressive and experimental metal (yes....actual progressive music will not sound like a copy of another band) as time has progressed. Rÿche to Tower to FW and then Dream Theater, Cynic, some of Death's stuff, Zero Hour, maudlin of the Well, Power of Omens whose debut I just scored and I'm loving it..


I haven't heard a ton of stuff from GAMA... I don't check out bands by record label.. but I do love old Stormwitch. If the rest is as bad as you say then at least they got one band right, too bad nobody ever knew who they were except HammerFall.
