- Sorry Spec. While I admire Germany and their output I think that the US is really a bigger hotbed for metal. I can name literally thousands amazing metal acts from the US and tons of them unknown and literally booming with quality.
I think America COULD BE. It is my #2 favorite metal country after all (under Germany). But the problem with a lot of American metal bands is this: You can hear that the German bands naturally just bleed heavy metal...whereas with too many American bands, they figure if they try hard enough or incorporate enough typical sort of elements, the same thing will come out.

Same thing can be said for Germans unfortunately. The GAMA-catalogue and lots of lesser band are essentially typical copycats of either the teutonic speed style of just Accept-clones on crack. Of course America is to blame too as they produced countless acts but I think that America can surely compete. After all - it is the birthplace of two rather unique types of metal - epic metal (Brocas Helm, Manowar, Manilla Road, Cirith Ungol) and power/thrash (Metal Church, Heretic etc.). I would say Manilla Road and Cirith Ungol alone get America a headstart - such unique and amazing bands that bleed METAL.

| Awesome box set that tracks rock n roll to its infancy. HIGHLY recommended if you like the early R'n'R stuff like I do. |

I would say Manilla Road and Cirith Ungol alone get America a headstart - such unique and amazing bands that bleed METAL. nah, Manilla Road, ManowaR, Metal Church always felt natural and real to me. Liege Lord, things like that. I mean more all the bands that feel like they HAVE to sound like old Fates Warning mixed with old Testament...they just ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO because to NOT COMPLETELY RETREAD EVERYTHING TO THE POINT OF PLAGIARISM is UTTERLY UNTR00 AND FALSE. I think America has become better for progressive and experimental metal (yes....actual progressive music will not sound like a copy of another band) as time has progressed. RĂ¿che to Tower to FW and then Dream Theater, Cynic, some of Death's stuff, Zero Hour, maudlin of the Well, Power of Omens whose debut I just scored and I'm loving it.. I haven't heard a ton of stuff from GAMA... I don't check out bands by record label.. but I do love old Stormwitch. If the rest is as bad as you say then at least they got one band right, too bad nobody ever knew who they were except HammerFall.

| The Rich And Famous - Stand Back: Prepared To Be Amazed This is the post-Kings Of The Sun Project by the Hoad brothers. Sounds a lot like Kings Of The Sun IMO. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.
