basically a bunch of Rhapsody, Enigma, and Isis.

so I've had this for a while and it keeps revealing new, little shades on each listen. So my conclusion is that this is absolutely masterful music, it draws a perfect line between melodic, progressive death metal, and more modern, brutal death metal (not 'tech death'), but without the more irritating traits of either. Production is polished and yet utterly crushing. The album is not stuffed full of trendy stuff in extreme music that would get the kids running, yet it sounds fresh, but at the same time familiar, for death metal. It's pretty much just how this sort of thing should be done, and somehow other bands just haven't done it that way yet. Awesome songwriting.

How is Trytan related to Jacob's Dream? I like both bands, but wasn't aware there was a connection.

Trytan is very similar to Rush, but more metal. Like a more progressive 'metal' Rush, rather than a progressive rock. Though Rush did have some metal in the 70s.

Anyway ... Trytan is a very good band. They only released the two albums (unfortunately). I'd buy anything they released. They were one of my favorite bands back when I was a kid, and to this day their music has a place in my life. I take out both CDs about once a year or so. Every time I do, I'm just flooded with childhood memories. I remember I did one of my first 'air band' sessions with Trytan. Good times.

Jacob's Dream is much more power metal oriented. Much heavier. Trytan had a bit of 80s sheen on their metal. Gave them a more commercial appeal. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I like both bands.

That sounds intrigueing, and like something I might like. I will have to check them out.

I'm glad to hear it because I completely bought into the album cover (I'll buy anything with a Lion or Tiger on the cover, hell, I have tattoos of Lions and Tigers!) But anyway I just thought early Jacob's Dream because Dave Taylor could sound like Geddy Lee sometimes, but I can tell Trytan was way more 80's from what you say. That's not a bad thing in my world though. I'm really looking forward to playing this album. I hope I like it as much as you do!
