She and Steve Vai do the guitar solos in that Mary J Blige video I posted.

I'm surprised. Coming from someone who enjoys good pop music as much as yourself. Different strokes though ... but I'm seeing we have less and less in common as the years unfold my friend.

I think this is very well done guitar-edged pop.

The girl is def a great player and can run laps around most female players and shes so young. Her album doesnt showcase her talent and love for the blues and rock. Their are moments of genius on the album but when you have others writing your material as is the case on most of the songs it will become a pop album.
She has been credited with some of the writing on a lot of the tracks but only one is credited to just her and that is the song Drive Away which IMO is genius and an amazing track.

I agree with metalrob on this one.
If one can't at least see how talented this gal is ... they need to re-examine their musical credentials card. It might be a fake.

Personally, after seeing her in the Mary J Blige video (mostly sans makeup), I don't even think she's all that hot but I still think she can play.
And if Steve Vai says he was shown up by an opening act (Orianthi), that's cred enough for me that the girl can play.

I realize this was not directed to me but after reading your post MB I felt I needed to comment a bit here
The same could be said about groups like Led Zepplin, Queen, AC/DC, Judas Priest, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, Metallica, Elton John, The Beatles, The Stones, Megadeth, etc......
My point is Different strokes for different folks, tastes are personal and not fact. It's what makes us all unique. when I said this did nothing for me, I'd like to go a bit more into it. To me she don't look hot but I only have eyes for one person, Im not denying her ability to play the chours is catchy when I say It did nothing for me, I am generally saying I was not blown away by it, I wouldnt actively seek this song out or this artist. If i were listening to the radio and this song came on I'd probobly keep it there providing there was no other tunes playing. Maybe it does nothing for me because Ive generally been more into -drum roll- a metal mood I know shocking huh? I've heard alot of songs that made me feel this way some I come to like down the road maybe cuz it grew on me.
I do like some pop music, wanna hear a good guitar player check out Michelle Branch

I totally respect that opinion Addy.
I'm the same way with Yngwie Malmsteen. I don't deny that the guy is a master of his instrument, I just find the music wanky and uninspired.
I think one can appreciate the technical prowess that a musician displays yet still not enjoy the music.
