What country creates the best metal?

I think there were lots of great bands here in Holland in the 80s and early 90s. The scene were was definitely better than in most surrounding countries (except Germany perhaps, haha). Some of my favorite Dutch bands are:

Picture (the first Dutch metal band)
Vengeance
Defender
Future Tense
Valkyrie (Dutch epic heavy metal band that only did a demo in 1984. Gorefest's Ed Warby played drums for them)

Heidevolk (these guys are actually from my hometown, and most of their lyrics are about the province where I was born and raised. They were also the first metal band I ever saw live in 2003. Good times)

Back on topic I love the USA, Sweden, then Germany IMO..

Evergrey, Hammerfall, Nocturnal Rites, Dream Evil, Therion, Axenstar, Pain of Salvation, Soilwork, Scar Symmetry, Unleashed, Yngwie Malmsteen, and Falconer all hail from there and are among someof the best bands...

I'll go with the US and the UK.

USA for sure. Everyone is naming bands like Kreator, Gamma Ray, Helloween, and Sodom, but we are forgetting the ol' USA.

Because i'm such an American power metal and thrash fan the US gets my vote but Germany is right up there with the UK being third.

Well,I'd have to say it's a tossup between Germany and the good old U.S.A. Too many great bands from both countries to really make a choice.

I like Epica's singer... but that's about it. If you like Pestilence you should check out Asphyx. They were even better in their heyday. The Rack is one of the finest Dutch albums ever.
