| Can someone list for me the 'essential' Saxon albums that I should have in my collection. I cannot afford 'ALL' | |

| I need to fill the holes in my Saxon collection too. I've only picked up "Denim and Leather" so far. Very good album though. | |

| The set of 3 new remasters comes out Feb. 2nd I believe. They were hard to get releases now they'll be available again thankfully. _________________ | |

| Wheels of Steel, Strong Arm of the Law, Denim and Leather and Power & the Glory are their essential 80s releases. Crusader is also worthy, but a step down, IMO.
Unleash the Beast is their best album from the 90s.
Killing Ground, Lionheart, and Into the Labyrinth (their latest) are what you need from 2000 on.

Huh uh, Dogs Of War is. That's a negative, Houston. Unleash has better songwriting and a heavier, harder edge to it.

Agreed they're both great, and the first few songs on DoW are killer, but it falls off really quickly for me after than. At any rate, Saxon rule!

| Metalhead is one of my favourites but yes, the earlier 80s albums are probably the best place to start. Of course, all of their albums are essential. | |

There are actually a couple I would recommend skipping, Rock The Nations being the biggest offender, unless you are a completist. |

| Heavy Metal Thunder is a good one too. It's a bunch of re-recorded classics. Makes for a nice "best of" collection as well that pretty easy to obtain. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

It's a great collection. I actually prefer some of the versions on there, such as Power and the Glory, so I need to pick it up.

So, how much do you think an entire discography of Saxon would cost?

So, how much do you think an entire discography of Saxon would cost? "cost" should not be part of the equation when speaking of necessities.... But, seriously - there is a 3cd box that covers the first decade [including some rarities!] and it is pretty cheap: http://www.amazon.com/Very-Best-Saxon/dp/B000MTOPAA/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1265124328&sr=1-4 |
