| Reminds me of an old "Bloom County" comic strip I used to have hanging on my wall. Milo Bloom (ace reporter for the "Bloom Beacon" newspaper) is doing a story on Satanic messages in rock music. He's got the new Twisted Sister album and starts spinning it backwards on his turntable, and he hears "Gooooo to churrrrrch.... saaaaaaayyy your praaaaayers... .TITHE! TITHE!" so he turns to Opus the Penguin and sez "I don't think I have a story." _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

Billy and The Boingers!!!!! Last summer, I went into a used book shop down the shore and found a copy of that Bloom County book with the Billy & The Boingers vinyl record still intact for $4. Did anyone ever actually hear that recording? EDIT: Duh! I shoulda know to look on YouTube first... I'm a Boinger!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxHAElC2FBw _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. EDIT: Duh! I shoulda know to look on YouTube first... I'm a Boinger!! Yep, my brother and I had that book and I remember the flexi-disc. The flip side was "U Stink But I Love U," recorded by Jersey local boys Mucky Pup. I forget who the "real" band was that did the "Boinger" song though. If memory serves, they ran some kind of contest to pick those two bands/songs, where musicians sent in demos of what they thought a "Billy & The Boingers" track would sound like. - TheNazgul wrote:

Ditto. "Bloom County" was the best comic strip ever to march across the American newspaper page, IMO. "Calvin & Hobbes" would be a close second, but that's a discussion for a whole 'nother thread. - TheNazgul wrote:

I used to have a stuffed Opus, damned if I know where it is now. For all I know it might still be in a closet at my parents' house somewhere. I used to have all the books too, but the only one I have left is the "Bloom County Babylon" collection. Back in the late 80s I proudly rocked a "Don't Blame Me, I Voted for Bill N Opus" t-shirt many times. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

Wikipedia tells us it was The Harry Pitts Band that performed "I'm A Boinger". _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

Remember Death Tongue? Hells yeah! How can you forget the band that brought us such 80s metal classics as "Let's Run Over Lionel Richie With A Tank," "Clearasil Messiah" ("Clearasil Messiah on the shelf, zapping zits from here to Hell!") and "Hari-Kari For Barry" (their ode to Barry Manilow)? Long time fans will recall that Deathtongue was the original name of Billy and the Boingers... when Steve Dallas (their manager) cracked under pressure while testifying at the PMRC "porn rock" hearings, he suddenly blurted out that the band would be changing its name to the more family-friendly "Billy and the Boingers," much to the chagrin of the DeathTongue members, who were watching the trial on TV at the time ("Maybe it's a vague sexual euphemism?" "Nah, that'd be 'Billy and the Diddlers.'") - MetalGuy71 wrote:

Ahhh Wikipedia. Whatever did we do without it?? _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| This thread reminds me of those two a$$holes the Peters Brothers who wrote a steaming pile of turd named 'Why Knock Rock?" which despite being one of the worst books written on the subject of rock n roll, it was filled with misinformation, half truths and the sort of nonsense that would make Tipper Gore's nipples hard. | |
