I've kept my eye out for it for a long time now and was more than exstatic to finally find it. I really love Ugly but I understand this is the essential LoA album (and I love the song This Time).

| I have to comment on your new screen "sub-moniker" (or whatever you call those titles below our screen names). Great song and the first thing I ever heard by DnC. Hooked me from the get go and I own everything they've ever put out. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

I was lukewarm on Ugly when I first got it in '96 (I got rid of it in 2000) but I got it last year and for some reason I liked it a lot more (something about it just grabs me). It's a very emotional and melodic album. Now the follow up album Soul Searching Sun it terrible IMO, the emotional quality of Keith's voice on River Runs Red and Ugly is sorely missing on it.

It's a very emotional and melodic album. Now the follow up album Soul Searching Sun it terrible IMO, the emotional quality of Keith's voice on River Runs Red and Ugly is sorely missing on it. Ugly holds a special place in my heart. When I interviewed Alan Robert for Shock Totem, this is what I said about it: - Quote :
- KW: Well, I was referring more to the emotional feel of the album, I guess. Ugly isn’t as heavy musically, but it’s definitely got a heavy emotional weight to it. I remember I bought that cassette in 1995, down in San Antonio. I was on town pass while in basic training for the Air Force. I actually joined the military to get away from a real negative thing at home. So it was pretty emotional for me, you know. My father was a mean alcoholic, and that was one of the biggest reasons I left. We had no relationship. At the time, I literally felt I hated him, but I loved him, too. That young, I just couldn’t sort it out. I wanted to reach out and help him, but also strangle him at the same time.
So when I was finally able to sit down and really listen to the album, “Seasons” just floored me. First track, right out the gate. The lyrics just spoke to me. Sure, it’s not necessarily about the same thing I had gone through, but those lyrics were hard to listen to. In fact, there were quite a few songs on that album that I could relate to a bit too closely at the time. “Lost at 22,” “Ugly,” “Fear,” “Damned If I Do,” it was like a soundtrack to my life. A tough album to listen to, you know, but it helped immensely.
Anyway, that’s what I was getting at. Soul Searching Sun and Broken Valley, I think, reflect a lot more of the emotions most of us go through as we get older. There’s a lot more hope there, you know. Or that’s how it feels to me now that I’m older. I could live without the cover at the end, but otherwise I love that album. Soul Searching Sun has a few great tunes ("Weeds," "My Mind Is Dangerous," "Hope"), but is otherwise pretty lifeless. Pain and sadness and betrayal is what drove this band to greatness. They're not in that sort of mindset anymore.
