Brittany Murphy dead at 32

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Brittany Murphy died on Sunday morning, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office has confirmed to Access Hollywood. She was 32.
According to the Coroner's Office, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Hollywood reported to them that an individual named Brittany Murphy died in the hospital on Sunday.

i wonder if it was drugs that caused her cardiac arrest? she was awfully young.

It's very sad for her family and friends. Not only because of her age, but the timing as well. To die only five days before Christmas makes it even more sad.

Yeah, heard about this earlier. I was surprised, she was still very young. Wonder what caused it.

Wow! That is some shocking news. At 32 a cardiac arrest sounds suspicious in someone who is not overweight. Hopefully that doesn't signify a drug overdose, that seems to be a major problem with celebrities (you think after so many decades and so many deaths, people would learn their lesson). My condolences to her friends & family (Christmas time does indeed make it more sad).

Oh, you mean Luanne from King Of The Hill? Yeah, that totally blows.

I've always wondered whether Brittany had a massive eating disorder, which then could've led to something like cardiac arrest. There were many times over the years where she looked VERY unhealthy (skeletal at times). For those who remember in "Clueless", they know what I'm talking about. I will be anxious to see what the coroner report will have to say in the coming weeks.

First thing I thought of was something drug related but wont know for some time but i know who she was, she was in Sin City, Clueless, 8 Mile and a few others i believe

You seen her husband? Dude ain't right, and she was on drugs. Remember the incident with her claiming to be stalked, like, by the Hollywood mafia or something, and then claiming her husband was kidnapped by the their associates? That's drug paranoia.

For years, she's looked like she's been on drugs or at least had a serious eating disorder and sleep deprivation to go along with it.

I believe it was drug related... her eyes always looked glassy. It's a shame... RIP

I was quite shocked when I heard this. 32 is way too young to go. But I do agree with because I thought her death sounded like it could be drug related.

Coroner: Pneumonia, drugs killed Brittany Murphy



LOS ANGELES — Brittany Murphy died from pneumonia, but anemia and prescription drugs also played a role, coroner's officials said Thursday. The
primary cause of death was community-acquired pneumonia, with
contributing factors of iron deficiency anemia and "multiple drug
intoxication," according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office. The death was ruled accidental. Coroner's
spokesman Craig Harvey declined to specify what types of drugs were
involved but said they were all prescription medications. Details about
the drugs the "Clueless" and "8 Mile" star had in her system will be
released in several weeks when a complete report is done. Murphy
died Dec. 20 at age 32 after collapsing at her Hollywood Hills home.
Her mother and husband have said the actress didn't abuse prescription
medications or have an eating disorder. Attempts to reach them for further comment were not immediately successful Thursday. Murphy's
husband, Simon Monjack, and mother, Sharon Murphy, told investigators
the actress had been experiencing flu-like symptoms in the days before
she died. Monjack told The Associated Press last month that his
wife did take several prescriptions, including an anti-seizure drug,
but did not abuse the medications. He said she had been taking over-the-counter Robitussin for her recent sickness. A
memorial for a foundation in Brittany Murphy's name that had been
planned for Thursday was abruptly canceled with no explanation. Dr.
Michael Baden, the former chief medical examiner in New York City, said
the coroner's determination indicated drugs probably played a key role
in Murphy's death. "If she died of pneumonia, that cause of
death is a natural cause," Baden said. He said the use of some
prescription medications can lead to pneumonia, and that the coroner's
office may have listed that as the primary cause to lessen the blow to
Murphy's family. "It sounds more like it's a drug-related than
a natural pulmonary pneumonia," said Baden, who did not work on the
Murphy case but has served as an expert witness in numerous
high-profile deaths. He said the quantities and types of drugs
Murphy was taking is key to understanding how she died, as well as how
recently she saw a doctor. "One doesn't die of pneumonia,
usually, that quickly," Baden said. He also said downplayed the role
anemia may have played in Murphy's death.

Not the same as say someone abusing them and overdosing here. She was sick therefore was taking medication to help. The mixture of what she was taking caused her pnemonia to get stronger causing her body to break down is what I get out of this.
