| To me Motorhead is speed metal. They had a huge impact on the thrash world for sure. I could actually see how someone would think they were thrash. I'm not a fan, but I do respect all they did for thrash. | |

| Can motorhead be labeled as pure thrash? I find it hard to exactly define their music. | |

They are speed metal and traditional metal both. Not thrash though.

It depends on how you define thrash. One of the most prevalent definitions in the mid 80s was that thrash was the riffs and song structure of metal combined with the speed and energy of punk. If you go by that definition, then Motorhead would be thrash. What band better exemplifies that definition? If you go by what the well known thrash bands of the 80s sounded like by the end of the decade, and compare that to Motorheads output during that time, then probably not. But then again, play Overkill, Ace of Spades, Kill 'Em All, Show No Mercy, and Fistful of Metal back to back, and note all the similarities: the riffing, the tempo of the songs, etc. ... Smurf it, they're Motorhead, that's all that matters.

I always call them hard rock, but oh well. To me they are much heavier than just hard rock. Everyone sees things differently though.

- Sort of a play off of TOB's thread about the new crop of thrash bands. What NEW releases (within the last five years or so) from older bands do you think are really good. (Keep it to about 5)
Hirax - New Age of Terror Hirax - El Rostro De La Muerta Meliah Rage - Masquerade (ok, technically not "thrash" but close enough!) Kreator - Hordes of Chaos Testament - The Formation of Damnation Paradox - Electrify
(then I break my own rule and list six. LOL!) All of these, except the last which I haven't heard.
