| anyone here a fan of oasis? I reckon they are a kick ass 90s beatlesque rock band with balls. They were my favourite band of 1997/98 a little before I got into metal. I especially love their albums Definitely Maybe and Whats the Story. Also they definitely put bands like Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys, Powderfinger and most of these soft indie rock filth to shame. Also I heard a rumour that Noel Gallager helped Lars Ulrich with his drug problem back in the mid 90s | |

| Never was a fan. I like Coldplay better. It's been years since I've heard them though. I might feel differently now that my tastes are more open. | |

| I maybe the only one on this board, but I love Oasis, at least their albums from 1994 til 1998/99, IMO they could do no wrong. They were not original or trying to reinvent the wheel but their love of The Beatles and love of the art of creating a good song won me over . It is too bad the Gallagher brothers are such tools but as they say trust the art not the artists. | |

| I like them. I'm a big Beatles fan and back in the 90's when they were making some waves, I'd heard that they had a heavy Beatles vibe to their music, so I checked them out, despite my disdain for anything & everything labeled "alternative" at the time. I have a few of their older discs, but haven't really heard anything since Standing on the Shoulder of Giants (2000). Over the summer, I kinda re-discoverd them when I was catalogging my collection and need to get back up to speed on their more current releases. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

| No, No, No, NO - I could never stand this band. Then again, the 90s craze is like a big blur to me. | |

| I absolutely love 'em!! In the begining I really couldn't stand the brother's whole attitude but nowadays I find it kinda endearing you might say. I probably would put Noel at least in my top ten list of favorite songwriters, maybe even in the top five. The amount of top notch material he wrote during the time span of their first few albums is just staggering.
One of the most interesting things for me was that many of their best songs during this time frame were B-sides. Noel didn't save 'em for subsequent albums he just put 'em out pretty quickly. If you're a big Oasis fan it pretty much makes tracking down both domestic and import singles a must. It also makes the B-side compilation, "The Masterplan" one of their best discs period.
I've also gotta say that the last time I saw 'em live, (which was a few years back), would probably rank in my top ten best concerts I've seen.
I also totally get why many may not care for them for reasons that could be elaborated on but I know I'm glad I gave 'em a chance.

It's not bad, but when comparing it to their earlier releases, this one seems to lose a little something. Come to think of it, it's probably part of the reason why I lost interest in these guys for awhile. Their first few albums hit it out of the park, then this one came along and it was just sorta "meh". Not bad by any stretch, but no immediate hits that I remember. When I ripped this album to my computer, the songs blend in nicely when I shuffle Oasis, but it's probably not the album I'd recommend for someone looking to get into the band. Pick it up cheap if you're looking to fill in your discography. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. | 100% agree with MG, 'Standing Over Giants' is not a bad album by any stretch but nowhere near as good as the three that preceded them.

| This is a band I just can't stand. I don't like the Beatles and from what I've hard of Oasis over the radio, they are second-rate Beatles. Fortunately their popularity has declined a lot from several years ago and their music is less pervasive on radio today but back in their hayday, this band was a major "channel changer" on the old car radio. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Their music sounds like a bunch of Beatles reject tunes with predictable lyrics and bland vocals. I liked them back when I was 17, but then again in 1997 I thought the Deftones were the heaviest band in the world. Such innocent days, when you're 17 and clueless. | |

No, you are not alone. I was a big fan back in the 90's, and I still listen to their first two albums, "Definitely Maybe" and "What's the Story Morning Glory", quite a bit. I remember hearing a single from them, "Live Forever", off of a compilation disc from CMJ (which I had a subscription for). I instantly liked them. Being a huge Beatles fan, I really dug their sound.

They've definately declined in popularity in the States. As I understand it, the band itself is no more, but does anyone know if they still sell in their homeland? They were the cat's pajamas in England long before they hit our shores. Or did the Brits have enough of Gallagher brother shenanigans as well? _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. | I dislike them, but once I heard this guitar line that lasted about 5 seconds while one of the music videos was on, and I thought that one part was amazing, and then I could never find it or the song again, to this day.

| I don't like the Beatles. I would actually say they suck quite bad. The music is boring, and just bland. And their influence is WAY overrated - They may have had a huge pop/rock influence, but I will throw up next time I hear another idiot tout, "Oh, without the Beatles, there would be no (insert any Heavy Metal band). Stupid | |

I'm sorry, but I have to completely disagree with you hear. It is one thing not to like the Beatles. Hey, I'm ok with that. Different strokes for different folks. But to say that they "suck", that their music is "bland", and that their influence is "WAY overrated" shows quite frankly a real lack of knowledge of musical history. I love metal too... but maybe you should try to step outside your box just a bit. Feel free to throw up now.

I do not lack any musical history knowledge. But there were so many other important artists like the Byrds, the american 60s invasion, Jimmy Hendrix and the Rolling Stones. I apologize my shallowness. Fine, I'd take the Beatles any day over the crap music today, but I just don't really care for them. I just think it's criminally sad that they steal all focus when it comes to musical influence.

| I think I'm going all in on Oasis and Liam's and Noel's solo albums. The other day I listened to a new song—"Blue Moon Rising"—by Noel and really dug it. From there I watched a few interviews with him, then more songs, then I got onto some Oasis stuff, and really dug that as well. For the past few days I've been watching interviews with both brothers and it's all kind of fascinating, really.
I'm not a Beatles fan. I don't hate them, but they don't do a lot for me, you know, so I've always kind of just not paid attention to Oasis since they were called a second-rate Beatles. From what I hear, though, they quite different. Yeah, the influence is there, no doubt, but they don't really sound like the Beatles to me. Or maybe they do and I just don't know shit about the Beatles. Who knows? Really digging what I'm hearing, though.

| First of all, I was totally expecting someone to post "why is this in the metal forum?" Imagine my surprise when I discovered that I would be that guy to at last point it out. Weird. But yeah, why is this in the metal forum. Second, used to be a big fan of Oasis, not so much these days, but they're phenomenal songwriters. I'll also echo what Eyesore said: - Eyesore wrote:

Agreed. In fact, I've heard a ton of old Brit-pop that sounds more like Oasis than the Beatles do. Perhaps everyone went with a household name for comparison when Oasis hit the scene. I still try and give the Beatles a shot once a year--can't say nothing has really changed. Much respect and understanding; little to be enthusiastic about, however.
