I know that most will probably laugh when I admit this - but I like ABBA!
I like some pop music though. But I'm pretty picky about what I do and do not like.
Am I the only one here who likes ABBA?

I have already confessed this sin in the past, but yes I like Abba. Great pop songs by two Swedish babes and a couple of dorky guys.

Can't stand em'. I have nothing against pop music or disco, but ABBA's songs are the kind of "Oh God, make it stop" catchy that I really could never get into them.

Could they write good songs? Definitely.
Did they're pop execution of them totally suck? Definitely.
I like ABBA songs much better when they're done by another artist. Much like Bob Dylan songs.
One of the best cover albums I've ever heard is the metal tribute to ABBA featuring Therion's staggering cover of "Summernight City".

What more can i say but Bjorn and Benny are songwriting geniuses. And those angelic voices carry those songs into another stratosphere.
Greatest ABBA song..........

I love alot of their pop hits, I think those two nerds that rattpoison mentioned by name had a way with melody and had an uncanny ear to write the catchiest but cleverest pop songs of any era.

I enjoy listening to them, yes... and I am not afriad to admit it. They wrote some very catchy songs, and demonstrated more talent than many of their contemporaries. Their "Gold" disk is often in my car as I travel. Good music you can sing along to... what is not to like.

Amazing band, and probably the most influential band in pop history, besides The Beatles.
I never grow tired of their music, and favorite songs include "The Name Of The Game" and "Chiquitita".

Awesome kmorg! I thought you only liked metal. You surprise me!
Anyway ... it's cool to see I'm not alone in my love for ABBA. I honestly thought I might be the only one here.
I only presently own "Gold: Greatest Hits", but I am seriously contemplating stepping my collection up a bit.
Does anyone know if their 'non single' songs are just as good as their popular ones? If so - I'll probably get all their albums.
The thing I like about ABBA the most is that they have so freekin' many hooks! I'm sining this stuff for days on end, and it's very good stuff to have stuck in your head! I'm a very hook-oriented person.

Exactly. You nailed it.
So many pop acts are so fake and don't even write their own music. ABBA demonstrated true talent, and that is why their legacy is so strong to this day.
By the way, has anyone seen the new movie, "Mama Mia"? It's a musical based entirely on ABBA songs. Came out last year sometime. I'm almost embarrassed to admit it - but I thought it was a great movie. I don't normally like musicals either.

Most definitely. Their genius extends way beyond ABBA Gold, rush out and pick up ABBA S/T (1975) and Arrival (1976) immediately at the very least.
I mean check out this deep cut from ABBA S/T (1975), a rifftastic hard rock stomper that could of easily come off Sweet's Level Headed record or Angel's Sinful, even Toho could swallow this ..........

My Mom LOVED ABBA when I was a kid growing up in the 70s/80s, so I heard a lot of 'em. Can't say I'm particularly a fan but they knew their way around a catchy pop groove, no doubt.

Chess? Wasn't that just a musical? Or was it an actual band with an album out? Sorry, I feel I should know this, but it escapes me.

It was a musical written by Andrew llyod Weber and it managed to even produce a hit single 'One Night In Bangkok' by Murray Head.

Cool! Is there an album you can buy? Or did they not release something like that?
I guess it's because of my age. When ABBA was big and even broken up - I was just a little toddler LOL!
