I hate to admit it, but yes - they were interesting - sexy - blended well - like a smaller version of Fleetwood Mac -

Yes. I have some vinyl LP's, some concert/movie DVD's by them, and still remember they were massively popular in the late 70s/early 1980s and when I was young, watching some hour long concert TV special on CBC TV on a Sunday night, (when usually the best thing on was only The 6 Million Dollar Man, or The Wonderful World of Disney's movie).

I can appreciate their ability to write a pop hook but much like Bob Dylan, I prefer when someone else covers their music.

Yeah they actually had some good music. I always think of this song when I think of them. Very catchy chorus.

My parents played them quite a bit when I was a young'un. I think my dad really dug the girls more than anything. As for me, I know far too many songs than I care to admit. Can't say I care much for them as an adult, but I can appreciate their contributions to the music world.

I have the Thank You For the Music box set. I listened to it all the time back int the mid-late 1990s.
I really liked "Summernight City." That is one of my favorite ABBA songs. That cover posted above is killer!
Here's another I really liked:

In my childhood, whenever it was that we finally got a car with a tape-deck, then between my sisters and I, we had to share it by taking turns with our own 30 minute cassettes. This was before I had a WalkMan. My mom would always have veto power, so I couldn't choose anything too heavy when it was my turn, but I did have to endure a whole lot of Abba (and the Carpenters, Barry Manilow, Neil Diamond). If I could list all the happy days from my childhood, then the day I got a walkman would be one of them near the top of the list.
I have to admit that at social events with many of the companies I have worked Abba is probably the one that gets the most people on the dance floor.

As a kid I used to watch a collection of their videos my mom recorded on VHS. 2-3 hours of ABBA, never got tired of them. It was enjoyable.

My Mom was (and probably still is) an ABBA fan, heard lots of 'em around the house growing up. Not my thing but I gotta give'em props, they knew how to write songs with hooks that stuck in your head for days...

I agree. The whole point of writing a pop song is to come up with catchy melodies, and they were very good at doing that.

I've only recently been digging into their stuff. It's pretty catchy stuff overall and I can appreciate the craft of the songwriting.
That said, total props to Therion for introducing me to their stuff via their cover of Summernight City, which slams.

Man Therion suck!!
I'd like to hear what Devin & Anneke could do with a couple of ABBA songs, they have already gone half way with the Addicted album.

I think their music could be classified as "pop" but they where not really "commercial" (IMO) ...

I wouldn´t plainly say they "suck" , I can recognize beauty and talent in their music, altough I´m not a real fan , it´s not my cup of tea. At least they do not pretend to be a "tough guy" band like some "very hard edged "pop" metal" bands do ...

I like some of their stuff. Word is they turned down 1.8 billion dollars to do a tour a few years ago. I know they sold a lot of records, but I didn't know that they sold that many!

It's reported that they sold upwards of 350 million records worldwide. So yeah, pretty popular.

It was 1.8 billion in Swedish currency. That only comes out to be about $1500 USD. So yea, they were a little insulted.

"Fernando" and "The Winner Takes It All" are awesome songs and the lyrics are cool.
