Yeah, it was pretty crappy, but Lurideath is right, they returned to form on the follow-up. But I wouldn't expect someone like YOU to understand that, Freddy. |

I gave my copy of METAL BLACK to my brother (who, as I mentioned, is the bigger Venom fan in the family) and he thought it stunk too. For whatever that's worth. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| I like them well enough. I have their From Heaven to the Unknown comp and I guess that'll do for me. I don't really have the urge to get anymore of them (plus I've never seen a used copy). My favorite track of theirs is probably Manitou. | |

| Raven were definitely faster and maybe a little heavier, but the atmosphere on the early Venom stuff is just plain evil. I can imagine how shocked a lot of people were when Venom came on the scene: those lyrics, the horrid production, the heavy as hell guitar tone... just awesome! | |

| I bought Venom's Welcome to Hell as a new release when I was in high school. Me and my friends thought it was Killer! However, we thought the whole Satan-gimmick was pretty funny. It was sort of on the same level as all the horror movies at the time; sort of b-grade horror put to music. I guess it wasn't really shocking to metal fans, but it was pretty shocking to those who didn't get the joke.
It's pretty amusing that three decades later black metal bands are still using Venom's imagery, lyrics and stage name as their own. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

Depends on who you talk to. Venom were sloppy and noisy, but in a good way. If that makes any sense. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| I have only ever heard two of their albums, Black Metal and Resurrection. The former is kind of raw, but still fun and it rocked. The latter is pretty bland.
I've seen them live, too. They were 'ok'.
Certainly an influential band.

| I love Venom, never got to see them live but I do own a live VHS of the live release ' 7 Gates of Hell' where it sounds like they meet their instruments on a blind date and decided to do a gig, it is a glorious mess. | |

| Definitely love the early stuff! Maybe Venom weren't the best musicians. But I think that reckless energy in their music plus that whole over the top image worked pretty well together. | |

Really??? I have to check it out. thankssssssss.

I think Mantas was a pretty good guitarplayer. His solos are pretty damn awesome. It's nowhere near Hellhammer in that regard (though I really love Hellhammer, great band!).

It's pretty amusing that three decades later black metal bands are still using Venom's imagery, lyrics and stage name as their own. That's my take on satanic lyrical bands. I look at it like a joke. That way I can actually enjoy a great deal of music that others with my same persuasion of faith simply cannot. I laugh at the stupid satanic stuff. Like a bad comedy. But I sure enjoy good music. I remember one time I was cranking Cradle of Filth in my truck up in Colorado. I was heading to a poker tournament. Anyway - I remember hearing some of the lyrics Dani was singing, and I thought ... wow - that really is HORRIBLE. So anyway ... I start to pray. Since I'm a Christian - I believe God is always with me and can talk to me at anytime throughout the day. But in a more simplistic way (like with your own thoughts, etc). So I said to God ... "God this is some horrible lyrics. Really blaspheming your name, etc". I felt like God said back to me ... "Son ... it is awfully funny though, isn't it? I mean ... after all - I've already kicked the devil's ass on Calvary - yet there are people out there singing praises to a totally defeated enemy who has been all but entirely crippled by what Jesus did to him. It's okay to listen to this music ... but laugh with me when these lyrics come on."

| I like it, if the word 'mature' and ' growth' can be used for a band like Venom it definitley applies to this disc, the musicianship (for once) is almost top notch with the expection of Abaddon, and newboy Demoliation Man has a cool voice that sounds almost like Cronos in spots, also their cover of Black Sabbath's Meglomania is very cool. As much as I like the CD and feel it is one of the better Venom albums it does lack the amaturish do it yourself charm of their first two albums. A great album that got many spins from me back in the day. | |
