That union was Marvel's first attempt at getting into the movie business but the only adaptations that rolled out were cheap-ass low budget crap like a "Captain America" movie that went straight to video, the notoriously bad Dolph Lundgren version of "The Punisher," and the infamous "Fantastic Four" movie that was never released at all.
Cannon Films ('80s home of Chuck Norris) had "Spider-Man" in development as far back as 1985 or so, a director was attached (there was even a script treatment by James Cameron going around) and I think some sets were even built, but the movie never got off the ground. To give you an idea of how long ago this was, a young Charlie Sheen was rumored to play Peter/Spidey in the Cannon version!
I remember the crappy Capt America & The Punisher w/ Dolph Lungren & Louis Gosset, Jr. I remember watching them on VHS back in the day!
The James Cameron Spiderman was almost a go in the late early 90's until Show Girls was such a bomb that it killed Carolco. They even had key chains made up for an exibitor show saying "James Cameron's Spiderman". Well, Spiderman was a no go at that time, Cameron finished True Lies then went on to make Titanic instead of Spiderman.

Yea, that Dolph version of "Punisher" was godawful - I actually wrote a letter to Marvel complaining about that one when I first saw it (yes, I was geeky like that back then. Haha.)
I remember seeing bootleg copies of Cameron's "Spider-Man" script at comic book conventions once the movie died. The Roger Corman "Fantastic Four" flick was a popular bootleg video at those shows too. I've still never seen it, though I've always wanted to. There are some clips of it on YouTube that are hilariously bad. Legend has it that Corman's company only made the "FF" movie to have something completed before their rights to the license ran out... it was never even intended to be released, but nobody told the people working on it at the time.

The only good thing to come from that movie was the timeless sample of Dolph saying : C'mon God... for that Biohazard song (Punishment).

Some other band (I forget who) also sampled Dolph's line "The guilty... must be PUNISHED" from that movie for one of their songs.

OH COME ON! You guys didnt like the old Punisher movie? Maybe the only reason why I liked it was cause I liked the Masters Of The Universe movie too. Back in the day I thought it was cool, maybe i'll try looking for it on netflix to rewatch it and see if I still feel the same.

I picked it up for 5 bucks out of the famed Wal-Mart bargain DVD bin a couple of years ago and even for THAT price I still thought it sucked.

I love that trailer. I remember seeing it at the beginning of the Dolph "Punisher" movie when that came out on VHS. I'd love to see the whole movie. Legend has it that the script was very faithful to the original FF comics, more so than the big-budget FF movie(s) that came out a couple of years ago.
Judging from what I see in that trailer, the entire movie probably cost less than Jessica Alba's makeup budget for her "FF" turns.

Wow!!! I had forgotten about that FF movie, I didnot know that they had actually completed it! I bought and still own the Captain America movie on VHS and it is horrid, not so bad that it is good, just horrid.
I can't bring myself to watch the Dolph version of 'The Punisher', it sounds like this movie makes 'SUPERMAN IV' seem like the Citizen Kane of super hero movies in comparsion.

By the way, that theme music you hear in the "Fantastic Four" trailer is recycled from Roger Corman's semi-classic 1980 "Star Wars" ripoff, "Battle Beyond The Stars" -- gotta love that guy. He never lets anything go to waste.

do a search for "1994 fantastic four torrent" and you'll get some hits to download the movie.

I still can't believe they're actually doing a Magneto movie. Last I heard, it was going to be a "de-aged" Ian McKellan (like how they did for him during the flashback scene in X-Men: The Last Stand). I have absolutey zero interest in watching that.

I liked the Punisher: War Zone movie that came out last winter. I thought it was very true to how over the top violent the comic has become.

Yeah, I liked the 2004 Punisher movie in a "guilty pleasure" way, but War Zone was great. That's how it SHOULD HAVE been done the first time. Can't understand why Tom Jane backed out of this one and why it was a project he "didn't believe in".

I'm so far behind on movies that I haven't seen either one of the recent "Punisher" films. I'm told that they're both a vast improvement over the Dolph Lundgren version though.

If the Punisher had been remade with Pauly Shore as the lead it would be still be a vast improvement over any version starting Dolph Lundgren.

I just turned on the news and it turns out that Disney was outbid at the last minute by a consortium made up of Wal-Mart, McDonald's and the porn industry.

I don't think that Disney is gonna rest until it owns every piece of media we consume from the cradle to the grave.
