| Jesse Hughes of the Eagles of Death Metal isn't going to be President of the Lars Ulrich Fan Club any time soon either... " Lars Ulrich from METALLICA is somebody who just really gets my gander up. You can tell the other guys in the band are cool and used to just be serious heshers who were probably whacked out on meth and would've kicked your ass in the '80s. On the other hand, you have Lars, who is just this swishy Mary who grew his hair long, put on a denim jacket and infiltrated this cool gang. The only time I met him, he was wearing a golf pantsuit and everybody was wondering who this fat golfer dude was acting like an a**hole in our backstage area. He could've been the greatest, but I went up to him after I figured out who he was and told him how much I loved METALLICA, and he just looked through me and walked away. Thirty minutes later, Josh introduced me as the dude from the band, and he didn't even remember me from a half-hour before and went on about how he thought we were rad. The only thing I wanted to do at that point was kick his ass." _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

I agree. To bad he wasn't better at tennis. Lars has always been the member of Metallica that I just didn't like. More to do with him then his skills though.
There is no Metallica without Lars. End of story, it's not even up for discussion. He has been the driving force in the band since he first met James in 1981. I can't believe you guys seriously mean that. Agreed. It's not just about his playing ability. It's about who organized the band and made things happen for them.

Exactly. Dave just answers the questions asked. Maybe if lazy writers/reporters would stop asking him, he'd stop commenting. AMEN! Music journalists are

| Why doesn't he tell the interviewer that he doesn't talk about that subject anymore? He knows it will get his name out there and promote the record. Any publicity is good publicity. | |

I've thought about that angle too and then the problem/story would be "Gee, Dave won't talk about Metallica anymore. He must still harbour some major hatred towards them." As we've all seen, Dave's always been one to speak his mind, so if he refused to talk about Metallica (or any subject for that matter), he'd be condemmened for that. He's damned if he does and damned if he don't. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. | This is old news to me. There's been stories involving Lars sacking firing from the band for years. I can't remember which book it was that I read years back (maybe K.J Doughton's Metallica/Unbound) reporting that the band was going to fire Lars just prior to going into the studio for "Ride The Lightning". Supposedly Dave Lombardo's name was coming up as a possible replacement. Whether any of the rumors were true or not, it would've been a foolish move. Not because of Lars superiorority as a drummer, but as a business man. He had a vision, and trailblazed ahead with that vision.

| Lars does have writing credits on just about every one of their songs. The first four Metallica albums are metal classics, so who knows what they would have been without Lars. He's still a douche bag. | |

100% agree with this statement, it was Lars ambition and drive that helped fuel their success. While I believe that to be true for the most part, and I'm just speculating here on what could have been, I think Cliff & Lars would have eventually butted heads with the direction of the band leading up to Cliff either leaving and taking James with him or those 2 kicking out Lars while Kirk silently sat by and waited for the dust to settle. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. | Dave's sticking by his story... In an interview conducted yesterday (Thursday, August 6) with Classic Rock magazine's Dave Ling, Mustaine steadfastly stood by his story.
Classic Rock: Given that Scott Ian wasted little time in issuing a denial, do you now regret breaking the story about METALLICA's alleged proposed sacking of Lars Ulrich?
Mustaine: "No. It was something Scott told me. I was trying to help him promote his autobiography. I love Scott and would never do anything to hurt him — never. But it's what he told me and I know other people who’ve heard it, too. With all the things that are out there on the Net, I know that Scott's having a bad time. People are starting to say, 'We believe Dave and Scott's a liar. He lied about the thing with Dan [Nelson, the singer who controversially parted company with ANTHRAX].' That's the last thing I wanted. I love Scott. I wish I could just make this thing go away. But I didn't say it, he did."
Classic Rock: So how do you explain your role in all of this?
Mustaine: "Like I said, I was trying to help Scott. I wanted to say something that would make people think, 'Oh smurf poo, I've got to have Scott Ian's bio.' I was not trying to make them think, 'Oh, Scott's a gossip,' or, 'Hey, don't believe Scott.' I'm really smurfing mad that people are saying bad stuff about him."
Classic Rock: It's even been implied that you "planted" the question with the interviewer from Rolling Stone to ensure it achieved maximum publicity.
Mustaine: "Yeah, how ridiculous is that? This is MEGADETH, not KISS." _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

| That's true Tyrion. Especially about that band. The plot thickens even more with Scott's current statement today on Blabbermouth. Scott's story is pretty implausible I think. | |

I can't see Dave ever going back to Metallica. He's very much the main man for Megadeth, and his personality would be too big for Metallica. A bit like sticking a shark in a goldfish bowl!
