| Upcoming Military Robot Could Feed on Dead Bodies http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,532492,00.html
It could be a combination of 19th-century mechanics, 21st-century technology — and a 20th-century horror movie.
A Maryland company under contract to the Pentagon is working on a steam-powered robot that would fuel itself by gobbling up whatever organic material it can find — grass, wood, old furniture, even dead bodies.
Robotic Technology Inc.'s Energetically Autonomous Tactical Robot — that's right, "EATR" — "can find, ingest, and extract energy from biomass in the environment (and other organically-based energy sources), as well as use conventional and alternative fuels (such as gasoline, heavy fuel, kerosene, diesel, propane, coal, cooking oil, and solar) when suitable," reads the company's Web site.
That "biomass" and "other organically-based energy sources" wouldn't necessarily be limited to plant material — animal and human corpses contain plenty of energy, and they'd be plentiful in a war zone.
EATR will be powered by the Waste Heat Engine developed by Cyclone Power Technology of Pompano Beach, Fla., which uses an "external combustion chamber" burning up fuel to heat up water in a closed loop, generating electricity.
The advantages to the military are that the robot would be extremely flexible in fuel sources and could roam on its own for months, even years, without having to be refueled or serviced.
Upon the EATR platform, the Pentagon could build all sorts of things — a transport, an ambulance, a communications center, even a mobile gunship.
In press materials, Robotic Technology presents EATR as an essentially benign artificial creature that fills its belly through "foraging," despite the obvious military purpose.

Until it starts hunting down Sarah Connors. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

| I was thinking Terminator as well... There is no good reason to waste time building things like this. There was a thing on the dicovery channel about scientists already developing invisibility cloaks, think about that falling into the wrong hands. Criminals could abduct anyone at any time without being seen. | |

It said "shadow people" are a supernatural phenomena associated with ghosts. Didn't say anything about science.

It said "shadow people" are a supernatural phenomena associated with ghosts. Didn't say anything about science. The term shadow people falls into two categories, either people who think their related to ghosts and paranormal beings or others who believe its technology involving bending and altering light to act like a cloaking device. I cant remember which, but either Fox or CNN ran a spot on shadow people and supposed sightings a few years ago.

No doubt that America will be using this on their ongoing "You're Gonna Take Freedom and Like It" tour of the middle east. One will have the choice of U.S.-imposed freedom or a slow death of being eaten by one of our crazy ass robots. |

| I for one would like to welcome our new robot masters. Actually this kind of thing has been around for awhile. I remember an article from a few years back about British scientists developing small robots for gardeners that would fuel themselves by devouring slugs (I guess they have a lot of slugs over there). One of the robots escaped from the test sight and was found weeks later, still roaming around eating slugs. | |

| Scientists are doing way more harm than good with these stupid inventions. It's getting beyond the point of useful machines, now it's about cruelty and destruction. | |
