Looks like Niceboard had a snaffu...

Besides being down since last night, looks like we lost a lot of posts. Things that were posted yesterday seem to be blank now. Weird.

I bet their server went down and they had to go to backups, so everything before a certain time was lost.

That stinks. I wondered why there were a bunch of blank posts.

Yup, CMR and the Cave had the same problem. I checked with Niceboard.com, but didn't see any explanations yet.

I wondered what was going on. Last night I was able to log into the board, but anytime I tried to click on a thread to read it, I'd get a message that said something like "unable to retrieve post/user data." So I bailed out after only a minute or two.

same thing happened to me, the only good thing about this happening is that Obama/McCain thread is mostly blank now.

Same thing happen to me - and a bunch of blank posts this AM - I wonde rif they will fix it

I was reading the Forumotion message board and it appears they rolled back to a backup from Sunday morning which means the missing posts are probably not recoverable.

...Whoops, nope, it's still here, though most of the posts are blank now.

I guess the post that I made last night about me giving everyone here 15 of my CDs is gone too. Whew, thank goodness for that one!

Spec.....you have all the luck!! I was really looking forward to those Loudness cds!!

I am sure most of the answers of "when did you lose your virginity" was filled with more fantasy scenarios than the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

maybe that huge Death Magnetic thread finally put to much strain on the server.

Still, so far, less probs than EZboard gave us.

There's been a few smaller glitches since I've been here, like all my watched topics disappearing, but nothing bigger than that.

I was checking on Forumotions site and they don't allow forum admins to backup their own board, which is a mistake, in my opinion.

Okay, here is the deal. Forumotion (the parent of Niceboard) did have some server problems and had to go to backups that were last updated on Sunday. Apparently they had some problems with some updates they had installed and then had to roll back to the pre-update status on their servers. Any posts between then and when they got things re-instated are gone and irretrievable. They are working on a more effecient/effective way to do board back-ups. I know a lot of people had gripes with EZBoard, myself included, BUT backing up boards was something they did for you...Forumotion does not. From what I have gathered in some chats with techs and through searching the administration forum, they have the problems solved and it should not be an issue.

There have been other little glitches here, but they were mostly unnoticed by general posters, and even a lot of mods/admins. You had to be "looking for them" to find them.

I have also had the problems with the shrunken Quick Reply box, but once I reset my cookies, it seemed to correct itself. I only had that problem on the CMR, however, and never at the HoM board. The CMR has also experienced some "broken" buttons and such, which, again, appear to be related to the updates that Forumotion did. They have assured me they will be fixed in the very near future, once everything is stabalized again.

The other main option is always to go to a full-service PAY board, which requires annual fees to stay set-up (much like EZBoard did), but then cost becomes a factor.
