Best and Worst Metal Band Names

Best: Guns N' Roses:
This is a mix of the names L.A. Guns and Hollywood Roses. The singer is of course Axl Rose, so it's clever.
Worst: Korn:
As much as I like the band, it's the whole Limp Bizkit thing. I don't see why Nu Metal bands have to all have a band name of a word spell wrong.

I'm a big fan of the Pretty Maids, but I think they shot themselves in the foot with their name.

best: The Doors (of perception)

One of the worst band names around is Pink Cream 69.

That name just screams sexual innuendo but their lyrics couldn't be further from that content.

One of the most misnamed bands would have to be Lucifer's Friend. While their first album fits the name (It's a dark Uriah Heep type album, John Lawton later sang left the band for Heep actually). But their later stuff runs from trippy proggy hard rock to bouncy pomprock (the Mike Starrs era). It's about as scary and dark as Boston or Loverboy. I really like this band, but the name don't fit.

Always liked the name Helix.

Fairyland is a pretty lame name for a metal band.

Rhapsody Of Fire (out of all the things they could have came up with to add to the name they pick OF FIRE. merry!) not that theres anything wrong with that.

The best band names to me is probably either Metallica or Iron Maiden.

Yeah but for that first classic album (Only one you need really) the name fits. Lucifer's Friend might have been a good fit for similar German contemporary's Night Sun, although Night Sun is a pretty cool name.

Another similar band Atomic Rooster, is a pretty bad name but kinda cool and idosyncratic like them.

I didn't know that Limp Bizkit was metal, but here are my best and worst:

Best: Black Sabbath - nothing more to say.

Worst: Edguy - what the hell is an "Edguy" and why would you choose it?

Vengeance Rising, Deliverance, Testament, Metal Church = Best

Best: Savage Grace, Sacred Rite, Motorhead, Overkill, Anthrax, Cirith Ungol, Napalm Death, Venom, Bathory.

Worst: Chinchilla, Heavy Pettin', X-Sinner, Foreplay, Cryptic Slaughter.

Best=Napalm Death

Worst=Mr. Mister

One of my favorite metal names has always been Satyricon.

Oh another bad name I can think of is Pissing Razors. Just hearing that name makes me hurt.

Worst - Custard, Fairyland, Nasty Savage

Best - Deliverance, Morgana Lefay, Enslaved, Barren Cross

Always thought that LAAZ ROCKIT and VICIOUS RUMORS were bad names for those bands. Good music, but the names sound like some sort of LA glam band, rather than the metal/thrash they were producing.

Some of the best are the ones that leave no doubt to the type of music:

I like both bands, but terrible, terrible names. I always thought that the name Savage Garden would have been a cool name for a metal band. Too bad is was already taken by some nancy-boys.
