Beer!

Lately Yuengling Lager has become my go-to beer. Affordable and tasty.

While in the store to re-stock last weekend, I saw a Chocolate/Peanut Butter Porter. I forget what brewery it was from, but though I love chocolate and I love peanut butter, I can't see how those flavors would work in a beer. The guy behind the counter overheard me saying "Seriously? Bleah," and he sez that it sounds gross to him too, but they've been selling quite a bit of it lately. Anybody tried this bizarre combo?

I've been off any alcohol for a long time now, but I did have a beer and a cosmo for our anniversary at Disneyland. The beer was a red ale from that cart in Disney California (Karl something?). It was pretty good, got all the buttery sweet notes of a red, but damn do they need to teach their girls about a) customer service and b) how to draw a decent head. Also, plastic cups are never the greatest thing for beer.

I've kind of grown tired of most of the Unibroues, but that one is still enjoyable.

Yeah, I sort of burned myself out on Belgians in general; I've been on a heavy stout binge lately.  But my favorite beer store had the Unibroue beers on sale so I picked up a few.  Tastes pretty good after all this time off.

Looking forward to the next Maudite I get my hands on....I haven't had enough of them to burn out on yet.

They're available pretty much everywhere bassman.  Dierberg's and Schnuck's both stock it.

Well I tried another New Belgian Abbey and just like last time I couldn't finish it. Half way through it had a taste that reminded me of pipe tobacco (the cheap stuff) and burnt coffee. I finally got a hold of the stuff and I hardly like it more than Fat Tire (which up til now I though of as the inferior one). This one used to be good to me but not anymore it seems.

On the other hand, I'm really enjoying the Beck's Sapphire. I think I will probably just stick to this one with the occasional Maudite. Experiments have been less than successful and other Unibroues won't cut it. I think it's best right now to just stick with what works cause I'm tired of wasting money on beers that I can't enjoy.

I find stouts to be too much for me (taste wise) but I do seem to enjoy porters which (from what I can tell) are a bit of a lighter stout. They share a certain taste that seem less intense in porters which allows me to enjoy them more.

I like porters too and that's a good one.  I also like Founders Porter.  

And the "bit of a lighter stout" is as good a description as any in my book.  Personally, I prefer stouts but you're spot on in that I think porters present a lot of the same flavor characteristics but aren't quite as heavy.

As a matter of fact, I was doing some internet research and turns out stouts (particularly brown stouts) were actually just stronger porters:

This is freakin' awesome! It's like a mocha with alcohol. This is the most flavorful (and tolerable) stout I have had. Since I knew I liked Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout, I figured there would be no harm in trying this one. I was right and this is an awesome beer.

No argument here!  That's good stuff!

And their oatmeal stout is my favorite of that style.   Great brewery!

I can't believe this is out already.  Just picked up a 6 pack at the grocery store.  It gets released earlier every year.  I used to hope it would be out for my birthday (8/27).  Now it's out the first week of August.

And this year's batch is back to normal.  The last 2 years I thought it was too heavy on the cinnamon and not enough pumpkin.  This batch is back to more of a pumpkin pie taste.

Must....have......pumpkin.......beer!
