My discovery of the trailer for "Mega Shark vs. Mecha Shark" inspired this run down of some more crazy Shark Movies that we can look forward to (or choose to avoid) in 2014:

I won't miss Blockbuster as much as Tower. I wasted years in that store.

As for all those shark movies, how many train wrecks can you watch?

Cool story. I think the most interesting out of all those is the Jabberjaw reboot !

Oh Gawd, yes, I miss Tower Records/Video too. I miss record stores way more than I'll ever miss a video store.

Unfortunately, the "dark and gritty live-action Jabberjaw reboot" exists only in my imagination... for now, anyway.

Actually, it goes like this: 'Sand Sharks' was 'Graboids from Tremors in the sand.'



...therefore, 'Avalanche Sharks' would be 'Sand Sharks' in the snow.

...and I stand by my comment that BIKINI SNOW DAY would be a fabulous name for a band.

Nice work. Somehow Seventh Star has found a lot of love over the years, like you say, and while not bad, not one I want to hear much.

It's kinda like Music From the Elder by KISS -- most fans either hate it or pretend it doesn't exist, but it's cultivated a small Star Trek style cult following.

New one. Last week I tried an experiment - I opened up my "Year in Review" issue of Entertainment Weekly, listened to their picks for the Top 10 Singles of 2013, and wrote my impressions of each of them. Needless to say, about halfway through this process I wished I hadn't started.

Great read, FF! And you deserve high marks for braving the scary, new world! As a high school music teacher, I'm half expected to know most of this stuff, and my students are usually surprised when I don't know an artist. Once in a while I'll weaken and be convinced to listen to "this great song!" I'm usually disappointed! There's a reason I only listen to CDs and my iPod in the car!

Thanks... but it's not an experiment I plan on repeating any time soon. Haha.

I've heard a couple of those songs due to the influence of teen girls in my house. We are doooooooomed.

The only song I've heard off of that list is Lorde's Royals. I really enjoy her album Pure Heroine. Dreamy synth pop is f*cking awesome. It's definitely not something I would've expected to become as popular as it has, though.

Nice job again, FF. I tried to listen to all of those songs embedded in the post and don't think I got through more than :30 of any one. I know the Katy Perry song, my wife & daughters like her. But like you, I'm just fine living in my little retro-bubble. It's nice & comfy in there.

Your spot on about the production, it made it even worse for them at the time. Between the two albums there are about 6-7 songs that I really enjoy and I have those.

I can't get into Lorde, I just think that her stuff is dull. I think that my attention has only one spot for female dreamy synth pop acts and that spot is being brilliantly taken by the awesome Grimes

Congrats ! I used to smoke but quit way back in 1993 ! 20 years....hard to believe.

Thanx, man. It's been a while since I've made a "quit" stick this long. Hoping that this is the first year of many.

20 years smoke-free is something to be VERY proud of.
