| The CMR is putting together a Deliverance tribute. So far four songs from this tribute have been put up on their MySpace. What are your thoughts on these four covers?
http://www.myspace.com/christianmetalrealm
I'm going to be doing a song on this tribute with ex-Deliverance guitarist Mike Phillips and Crucified drummer Jim Chaffin. Our song will take some creative license, but will keep the overall thrash/speed metal vibe. I'm scheduled to record the vocals this coming Thursday.

| Wow! No opinions at all?
My opinion is, I'm not a big fan of non-metal bands covering metal bands. Tributes with many different styles of music covering bands I enjoy tend not to get listened to more than once. I tend to like tributes where the bands contributing are all heavy metal, thrash and death metal, such as the ones that Century Media and Nuclear Blast pout out. Since it will mostly be metal fans buying this tribute, I think it's safe to assume they will want to hear metal covers.
The Stryper and Mortification tributes had multiple styles of music covering them and I don't really care for either of them, save for a handful of songs. So far, the songs posted for the D tribute aren't my thing. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

I'm looking forward to your cover, ult.
I'm not much for songs that people record on their computers in their Mom's basement, so none of those posted do much for me. |

The covers are terrible with a bad drum machine. What's the point?

| This could be interesting, especially given the varying sound DELIVERANCE themselves had...from balls out thrash/speed to gothically dark groove stuff. Word!! _________________ "Oh man, I need TV? When I got T Rex"

| Ummmm... okay, Sacrificed did a decent (but not mindblowing) job on "Slay the Wicked"... but the other three, ugh!
Coriolis (?) turned "What A Joke" into a Marilyn Manson song...
I clicked off of whatever band was doing "Weapons" as soon as I heard WOOOORRRRRGH vocals... no thanx...
"The Call" by Lepar (?) sounded like a really bad parody of one of those Italian symphonic metal bands (i.e. Rhapsody, Labyrinth, etc.) ... godawful...
...where the heck are they finding these bands??? If I were Jimmy P. Brown I think I'd be insulted!!
Let me know when your cover gets added to the MySpace, Ult...
Otherwise... bartender, I'll take my check please ,I'm outta here! _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| There will be more metal bands on this from what I know.
I actually thought the Krig song was interesting though. An interesting interpretation of the song. Not really my thing musically, but I respect what they did with it. The drum machine didn't really bother me.
The Sacrificed song sounds almost identical to the original with slightly different vocals, right down the the exact same opening. They did a good job with it. If I had any criticism at all, it would be that I wish they would have put a little more of their own personality into the song. I tend to like covers where the band makes it their own song.
The cover of What A Joke was also an interesting take on the song, although once again, not really my style. Sounds a bit like Marylin Manson meets Circle of Dust.
I didn't care for the new wave, keyboardy version of The Call. I couldn't even tell you if it is good cover since that style of music is so far outside of anything I listen to. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

| Hopefully the rest of the tribute will be better. So far it is a pointless endever and an embarassment to the Deliverance legacy. But tribute albums, in general, are a lame trend and utterly a waste of time/money now days. |

| I don't know, I really like tribute albums. The Dio and Priest tributes from Century Media are regular players for me. I also have a blues tribute to Aerosmith that I spin regularly. Even have one of the songs as my ringtone on my phone. LOL!
I would buy this Deliverance one regardless, as it is being put together by two good friends of mine, both of whom post on this board. (Bill Roxx and Arttie) I think they will do a good job with it. It's hard to judge off just four songs, especially when two of those four aren't metal songs. I am pretty sure there will be more metal bands.
The song I am part of is a straight up thrash song. The guitar playing is spectacular! I like the little changes that Mike Phillips made to the song. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

| I've only heard the first two (The Sacrificed and Coriolis).
The Sacrificed did good, but I don't see the point of doing a carbon copy. Its well done, but really if I wanted to hear the exact same version of the song then I'd just listen to the original. Especially when the singer sounds strikingly like Jimmy Brown anyway.
Coriolis' What a Joke was vastly different, but I liked it. Why? Because they put their own spin on it. Plus it reminded me of Doctor Who's theme song and you can't go wrong there in my book. lol

| Ok, I just finished listening to Lepar's version of "the Call" and its not my thing at all. And the other one Krig I think it was.......lol ugh again.
So far, I like 2 and dislike 2.

| I don't know, I thought all of th songs were interesting. Sure, not my thing musically, but they sure made the songs their own! And none of the recordings were that bad, imho. Looking forward to hear more metal versions though. _________________ | |

| That was....painful. The Sacrificed cover was good, but too much a carbon copy. I like it when a band puts their own stamp on a song, whether through a tempo shift, solo changes, or some riff flourishes added here and there. Wasn't done there. That cover of Weapons Of Our Warfare was wretched, in my opinion. The other two were just way to different for me. _________________ You're cancer, you can't be the answer, you're killing me
