I of course only know the Screeching Weasel version.
Is that the band that recorded the song for 'Valley Girl' soundtrack?
According to Amazon, that's the Josie Cotton version.
I was always mad that soundtrack album didn't include Sparks' "Eaten By The Monster Of Love".
Johnny are you Queer was actually a Go-Go's tune. They were slated to be in Valley Girl and sing that tune and another, but they were drunk and never made it to the set. They got Josie Cotton at the last second to fill in. Go-Go's got paid for the track, but missed a big opportunity.
If ya wanna hear the original, it is on the Go-Go's boxset - Return to the Valley of the Go-Go's [which also has a ton of cool stuff from back in thier punk days!!].
Let's forget X's sordid tale of 'Johnny Hit and Run Paulene'
The first one i thought of, here's a few more.......
