| Everybody knows "Frankenstein", the seminal funk-metal instrumental masterpiece without which we might not be where we are today. But back then my friends and I of course wanted more in the same vein, and I think we pretty much wrote these guys off as bluesy sidekicks to Rick Derringer when they failed to deliver much more that was very heavy. This month I had a free promo CD coming, and among those to choose from was Johnny Winter "Saints & Sinners", so I picked it up. Lo and behold, it turned out to be pretty much just the sort of Texas guitar rock that I'm so into right now. I really like it, about half of it is actually kinda southern hard rockin'. Another nice surprise blast from the past. | |

| I saw Edgar opening up for Deep Purple this summer in Clearwater, FL. It was OK. He had a young kid on guitar that ripped it up pretty well, but the show wasn't as good as the DP show. But I really was nevr into Edgar or Johnny, just because of circumstances. |

| Edgar had some great moments like Frankestien and Free Ride, but Johnny is the Man! There would have never been Stevie Ray without Johnny Winter! He has recorded some of the best Heavy Blues EVER!!! | |

| Well the one I have that prompted this thread has Edgar on keyboards, and as I say it's Texas hardrock/bluesrock mostly. I was also astonished to see that two of my favorite midwestern whitebread bands (Kansas & Jo Jo Gunne) got credits for chorus work (it says "handclaps" actually, but...). I think "Johnny Winter And" has the whole Winter/Derringer crew on it, but I haven't heard it for 30 years so I don't recall. I expect to pick that and "Still Alive and Well" up soon cause I'm likin' what I'm hearin'. | |

| This reminded me of what I saw on an episode of MST3K when they did the movie, A Touch Of Satan. There was this really old lady with long white hair and leathery skin trying to attack this one guy and as the family escorts "grandma" to her room, one of the bots says "Edgar Winter, the later years!" | |
