I would have to agree with you on the pecking order - Master, Master!!!! - I bought that one on cassette the day it was released. I wore out the tape.

Rust in Piece is, in my opinion, the best Megadeth CD. I saw them on that tour - the opener was Testment (practice what you preach tour).

I like Spreading the diease and Persistance of Time better than among the living, but none the less, a good album.

Not a huge Slayer fan, but they were on a good roll for a while - hell awaits, reign in blood, south of heaven - all good albums, even if the lyrics suck satan's **** (use your imagination)

Out of those 4 albums, Spreading The Disease. Out of the big 4 in general, Hell Awaits.

Metallica, only because it is probably The Greatest album in thrash for the 80's.

the order for me would go... slayer OR megadeth, then metallica, then anthrax.

glad to see the Deth album getting respect in the poll though.

I've never been a big Slayer fan. When they slow things down, and groove a bit, I've always thought they excelled. When they play fast everything just of blurs and loses its identity from everything else. I'm not saying some of their faster songs weren't great—they had some killer fast songs—but overall they never impressed me much.

What they severely lacked was a hook. I think a truly good song needs some sort of melody hook, whether in the music or vocals. Slayer failed at that more often than not, I think. Of course, Def Leppard is my all-time favorite band, so I'm a sucker for a hook. Haha.

I voted Master of Puppets because its my all time favorite Metallica,but I could have easily picked any of those.

I chose 'Among the Living.' But to echo someone else's comments, I'd have chosen 'Ride the Lightning' if it'd been on there instead of 'Master of Puppets.' Also, I feel 'Peace Sells' is Megadeth's peak.

man puppets kicks ass all these years later but then so does rust and reign. i dont have among the living i only having spreadig the disease by anthrax.

Then your next assignment is to purchase "Among the Living". It's easily as great as Master of Puppet, Rust in Peace and Reign in Blood IMO.

it shall be done although i beleive you stated on nltim that spreading the disease was one of the greatest metal albums of all time so i went and bought the damn thing.

i actually had to order it and walked out early from an english exam to pick the thing up before the bus came

Indeed it is. I love 'em both and actually give a slight edge to "Spreading the Disease." They are as vastly different as "Ride the Lightning" is to "Master of Puppets".

ah sounds good i have already found it on sale for 6.99 so may well be a next purchase

thinking about it i gor rl and mop on vinyl for christmas last year and a dimebag darrel guitar which sounds oh so sweet

I went with Rust In Peace, but I could have flipped a coin between that and Master of Puppets. I could very well have picked Master of Puppets if I had read this thread in a few minutes from now or a few minutes prior.

Master of Puppets is pure metal perfection.

Since we could choose multiple options, I voted ALL of them.

Personally my pick would be Master of Puppets though.

I love all those but Slayer. RIP just has so much meaning for me but I used to work at a print shop and we used to jam all three of those.

Master of Puppets because it's timeless and set the standard for quality song writing in thrash. Not that the others are anything less but they were more the followers.
