...and you'll have your first customer in me. DT is a real love/hate band for me. I love love love the music, but I can't stand the LaBrie breathy vocal delivery, and his high range just does sit well on my ears. Charlie Dominci should have never left. |

| ^^ Sorry, but no. Record company oversight into metal albums = FAIL.
I like James LaBrie's voice. I would admit there are times when he sounds strained in the high registers, but as a vocalist, I don't hear him under-singing the notes or falling flat. I think his style fits the music well, and I am looking forward to the next album.

Someone with balls, like most every other progressive rock band. Hell, even Geddy Lee has more strength behind his vocals. |

** raises hand ** I wonder if that is the role Kevin Moore played because their music sure went downhill when he left.

Russell Allen I'd be surprised if he could sing "Pull Me Under" as well as James did. Very surprised.

If LaBrie still sounded like he did on Images and Words, I would agree. But he's been pussified since then. |

| I'm missing some of their mid-period releases, but overall I like just about everything I've heard from these guys. I always thought LaBrie sounded just fine with 'em. I'll pick up the new one eventually. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

The releases are still great quality music. It's not like DT are releasing below standard albums. These guys are outer worldly musicians who just love writing and playing. Im sure the same thing would be said if they didn't release albums as fast. I would much rather have a band release great new material often then waiting 4 or more years between releases.

| I used to really dislike James LaBrie's vocals, and I don't know why, since now when I listen to Dream Theatre I could not imagine another vocalist singing for this band and I think he fits right in, better than the original vocalist. | |

If LaBrie still sounded like he did on Images and Words, I would agree. But he's been pussified since then. Have you listened to the grittier parts of "Systematic Chaos"? As far as Russel Allen, he's a fantastic vocalist (one of my favorite US metal vocalists, really), but I honestly think he wouldn't fit what Dream Theater does or is. LaBrie has a unique sound to his voice that just "fits" DT, and I think the day he decides to hang it up is the day their sound will become less interesting. Of course, they could find somebody who has just as interesting a voice/delivery as James, albeit a different sound, so who knows?

| I just don't like LaBrie's voice, didn't like it on Images And Words and still don't like it now.
My main problem with Dream Theater (besides the vocals) is that they don't stretch out enough...they don't push the boundaries. Too many progressive bands play it fairly safe. How about throwing some really radical arrangements into the mix? Some atonality? Some segments that scare the average listener? That's the stuff that excites me. |

I agree, I have to say these guys are amazing musicians but I find myself getting bored with them because they tend to blend together from one song to the next album to album. Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Tony McAlpine, Greg Howe etc. so many of these virtuoso players are just too much for me. I am not knocking their talent or diminishing it in any way and I would love to be able to play as well as any of them but I like more simple compositions. Some bad notes thrown in there every now and again makes it more human and easier to rock out to.

He's been taking vocal lessons, so his voice is obviously going to change. If they want a little more raspy voice, they have Portnoy sing on a couple tracks.
