| I think this is cool. I saw all of the Motorhead deluxe editions the other day at a local place and wished Priest would do something like that. I already own all the originals and the remasters and a few Import versions; and, yes, I would buy them all again. | |

| The "alternate lyrics" for War Pigs are most likely these, the song was originally called 'Walpurgis'
Witches gather at black masses Bodies burning in red ashes On the hill the church in ruin Is the scene of evil doings It's a place for all bad sinners Watch them eating dead rats' innards I guess it's the same wherever you may go Oh Lord yeah Carry banners which denounce the lord See me rocking in my grave See them anoint my head with dead rat's blood See them stick the stake through me Oh Don't hold me back cause I've just gotta go They've got a hold of my soul now Lords got my brain instinct with blood obscene (not sure about this line) Look in my eyes I'm there enough Yeah On the scene a priest appears Sinners falling at his knees Satan sends out his funeral pyre Casts the priest into the fire It's the place for all bad sinners Watch them eating dead rats' innards I guess it's the same wherever you may go Oh lord yeah |

| It's a variation of the lyrics from the Paris concert, I also think these are the lyrics to the demo version on The Ozzman Cometh.
Geezer wrote the lyrics, slowly transformed the song from being about witchcraft to war protest. |

| Those are the lyrics on that demo version, or close to them anyway. So, this is going to be a full series of re-issues? | |

So, this is going to be a full series of re-issues? According to the black-sabbath website it's being called a "series", don't know if that means it will be complete or not. I'm just hoping that they do the debut album next and include the full-length version of Warning, plus The Rebel, Song For Jim & When I Came Down (all unreleased thus far). |

Thats actually the same one I was hoping for when I saw it said series. Get outta my head And maybe Born Again with The Fallen tacked on and possibly a well remastered live show.

| Next to The Doors, Sabbath is my fav, but I see nothing here that interests me. Quad mixes, instrumentals, alternative lyrics....I'll pass on the re-fried beans! | |

| Actually, the instrumentals is what peaks my curiosity the most...especially on the first 2 albums because they were recorded very quickly and alot of the solos were improvised on the spot. (the debut was recorded in 8 hours, Paranoid in 16 hours). |

Yep, but so far no one has owned up to having the tape.

| I love Sab and that album in particular, but this just reeks of overkill and record company greed. Pass. Not being a smartass here, but without getting too technical, can someone explain quadrophonic mix to me and why someone would care about that? _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

The only way to actually re-produce it would be to make that disc a DVD. The Quad disc is a waste of plastic. But I still think the unreleased material makes it worthwhile. If each album has a disc of rarities...I'll buy them all again (despite already owning the black box). |

| This is not aimed at Black Sabbath, but I do get sick of record labels reissuing the same albums over and over and than adding bonus tracks or bonus disc in order to get fans to shell out more money for an album they already own, no wonder downloading is on the rise. | |

my thoughts exactly, i wish that bands would make a box set/CD's of just rarities, etc. I think it's more the die-hards who buy these kind of things anyway.

Yeah, I feel you on that one. It's actually worse with collecting jazz discs than rock. I think there have been at least 5 different reissues of A Love Supreme over the past 10 years. Let's look at Sabbath for a second: for YEARS they were basically completely ignored by the whole re-master market. Most of the individual Sabbath CDs in the record store are still those late 80's masters. The import Castle reissue series from the 90's were not produced using the original master tapes, they were made from the vinyl masters. The first actual remasters available (produced from the original tapes) was the Symptom Of The Universe 2-disc set. Then the Black Box came out, the intention with that was to provide mini-LP facsimile reissues of the original albums (with no bonus tracks - with the one exception being Evil Woman). However, not everyone likes box sets or needs all those albums. Which leaves the consumer with option of either buying a 2-disc "best of", or buying the old late 80's discs. So in actuality, this "series" is the first time they've been available with unreleased material on them. Which for the casual fan is probably not necessary, but for the fanatic...it's like finding the Unholy Grail. |

| I agree with you at that point in regards to Black Sabbath, but even as a die hard fan I have no desire to rebuy those original albums once again on CD, as much as I love those albums there is only so much available cash. The Doors my favorite band in 2007 re-released all the original studio recordings, remixed and remastered with bonus tracks, I made the decision to go with another greatest hits package instead or rebuying all the CDs again, and also made that same decision with Black Sabbath where I bought that Symptom of the Universe, as a fan I would be happy shell out money for a CD of rarieties by Sabbath, but I am not sure of re buying the catalog, if I won the lotto, than I am sure I rebuy them without any thought. | |

That's my feelings on the whole subject too. It's fine if they do it once, but every time a new record company takes hold of a band's back catalog, they re-re-re-re-release it. It's overkill. Motorhead and Maiden, I'm looking at you. :kickbutt: _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. I remember reading either a press release or review when that box set first came out and the subject of bonus material came up. I know it said something to the effect of "back when Sabbath recorded these, they were so short on music to fill the albums that no bonus or un-used music exists." Then a few years later, like magic, bonus tracks appear out of thin air. That's what really burns my a$$ about this re-issue. I understand if they wanted to give that mini-LP feel with the box set, but to say that bonus material doesn't exist when it does ticks me off . _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. I feel ya, I also wish they had included tons of bonus material in that box set...but that would have also inflated the price immensely (and it's not cheap to begin with). However, there are times when new material comes to light once intrepid tape librarians start scouring through reels in the studio. In 2002 they released a 2 disc set of Coltrane's A Love Supreme, a bonus disc was added that included an aborted "sextet version" of the album...these tapes were not in the label vaults, but were provided by Coltrane's son from their personal family library. In 2003 a rare music collector found an unmarked acetate in a flea market in New York, bought it having no idea what was on it. It ended up being an unreleased concert from Dizzy Gillespie & Charlie Parker recorded in 1945 at Carnegie Hall. In 2005 another researcher at the Library Of Congress stumbled across an unmarked reel that contained a complete concert featuring John Coltrane & Thelonious Monk...nobody even knew this had ever been recorded. So, often times it's label Bullsh*t...but there are occasions when discoveries are made. |

Sorry, I'm not making excuses (I hate record companies with a passion), just throwing out other possibilities. Back to the topic at hand... The first 2 Sabbath albums were recorded on 8-track machines and were basically cut "live to tape". The only exception was the vocal tracks which were recorded separately, and some guitar solo overdubs. These "instrumental" versions are just complete takes of the song without the vocals and overdubs added. |
