1984 was one of my "gateway" albums into hard rock/heavy metal, along with "Metal Health" and "Stay Hungry". It seems like an overlooked VH album by alot of "serious fans" because it featured the band's biggest hits of the day and was the harbinger of the end of the original band, but there are some great songs on here once you wade through the hits. My favorite song on the album is the last of the radio releases, "I'll Wait". That song has a feel that no other VH song has, IMO. I love it today as much as when I bought the 45 of it back in 1984 or 85. What is your favorite song from this classic album? |

| I love " Drop Dead Legs' has a simple but effective Eddie Van Halen riff, with David Lee Roth lyrics and vocals brimming with attitude. Classic stuff, I love the entire album, yes that would include 'Jump'. | |

I think "Drop Dead Legs" is an old song that they had laying around. I agree it's pretty awesome. |

| I've always liked Top Jimmy for some reason. I guess I liked the story or something. Dang fine album all around. This was probably one of my 1st "heavy" albums I'd heard as a young'un. A friend of mine had it on vinyl and made me a tape copy. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

| My second favorite album ever (after Van Halen). It has your fun pop song (Jump), and some "grade A" heavy metal (House of Pain (one of their heaviest), Hot For Teacher, Panama) I'm going with Hot For Teacher. Eddie's ability and genius are at it's highest on that song, Alex is a monster behind the kit, and Dave tells the story of every young boys' fantasy with Mike adding some great backing vox on the chorus. Video was hilarious. Al can keep rythym behind the kit, but he is so uncoordinated when it comes to dancing. | |

| I also voted for Top Jimmy, that's such a great riff...and a stylistic departure from what you usually got with Van Halen. |

| That album was my 3rd grade school year. Awesome. I love the whole platter but went with "Drop Dead Legs" with "Girl Gone Bad" a close 2nd. Peace. | |

| Fun poll BTW.
I haven't listened to this album in ages and this poll inspired me to dig it out again. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Geez, I haven't heard "1984" in dog years. It's one of the VH albums I have yet to upgrade to CD (the others being "DIVER DOWN" and "FAIR WARNING"), which is something I should really take care of one of these days.
Anyway, I'm trying to decide between "Panama" and "Hot For Teacher" here - (Though it's a classic track, "Jump" is soooo overplayed that I never really need to hear that song again as long as I live.) "Panama" was pretty dang HEAVY METAL by Van Halen standards and is still one of my favorite VH tracks, but I think "Hot For Teacher" is gonna get the nod here because of the brilliant video.
Waldo's Mom: "Waldo... sweet, sweeeeeeet Waldo... I hope you finally make some friends this year."
Waldo: "Awww, Ma, you know I'm not like other guys... I'm nervous and my socks are too loose!")
DLR (as school bus driver): "SIDDOWN, WALDO!" _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"
