| Headbanging hazardous to your health
LONDON (AP) -- Is headbanging as cool if you wear a neck brace? That's what medical researchers are recommending to reduce injury. The British Medical Journal has published a study of headbanging. Researchers have determined that the average headbanging song is 146 beats per minute, and when the range of motion is greater than 75 degrees, that's enough to cause mild head injury. Higher tempos and greater range of motion lead to risk of neck injury. What to do? Researchers suggest wearing "personal protective equipment," decreasing the range of head and neck motion, and only headbanging to every second beat or headbanging to slower tempo songs "by replacing heavy metal with adult-oriented rock."

| I never did any headbanging. It always gave me a damn headache. Plus I wanted to actually watch the band, not my shoes. |

Agreed. Headbanging always did (and still) seems like wasted energy. Plus it looks goofy as hell. Especially on grown men. |

Even a rather animated head-bob. Full-blown headbanging, though? Too painful. Maybe my brain is too small for my skull. That would explain away some personal issues. |

So you just stood there and watched the band headbang ? Well, I'm there to watch the show, so yeah. And it was great. Well, after a certain point. When I was young, I did all those moshing/headbanging crap. Then later I couldn't remember what damn songs the band played or anything. Lame. So I watch shows now, and they're much more satisfying. Would you go to a movie and stare at the floor? |

I normally mosh and have fun, but i do take brakes to actually watch the show. Sometimes its just hard for me to stand still at certain shows. cant help it. But i definitely have to take the time to appreciate and watch. | |

| I will head-bang when I'm in the pit or in front of the band. When it's down there it's fun, you're moving around anyway trying to keep your spot, but when you're in the stands surrounded by a bunch of people I just like to watch the band. I pay insane amounts of cash to go, I'm not gonna waste it looking somewhere else. I can head-bang to the music in my room or in the car. | |

I just don't spend my time pretending to be a ninja or shaking the lice from my head. But I'll rock the fuggout! |

| I love to headbang but I know how to not overdo it, though I have made mistakes in the past (I threw my neck out during Ugly Kid Joe-Everything About You once). I know it may look rediculous (or goofy) to some but I could care less. At concerts and during songs I know the lyrics to I balance out my headbanging with singing and when I'm by myself, air guitar (and keybaords if applicable). Now when my hair was short I hated to headbang too much, I always felt the need to do it harder and that was were I hurt myself. Long hair makes it easier on my neck. | |
