Wouldn't surprise me one bit. Quite frankly, he could release an album full of polka tunes I wouldn't care. Not my cup of tea, but he still fills stadiums, so good for him.

Yea, Bon Jovi is gonna be on the CMT Awards show tonight. My wife is over the moon, cuz not only does she love Bon Jovi, but she also loves country music, so this is the best of both worlds for her.

Meanwhile, I plan to be in the other room watching a movie on our other TV or playing on the Internet while she's watching this awards show. sick

I've heard one new song and it's definitely country-influenced. But it's more or less an acoustic-based rock tune. If you have the 1,000,000 Fans Can't Be Wrong box set then you won't be surprised here. A lot of their recent tunes have been very similar, especially a good chunk of those unreleased songs on that box set.

I'm not sure if the song I heard is indicative of the rest of the album, but it's not a complete country tune. And it wasn't a bad song, either; it simply wasn't a rock song.

Bon Jovi is a pop star. Pop and country seem to be intertwined right now, so I don't see it as any great leap.

The girl who sings for "Sugarland" (whom Jon and the boys collaborated with during their last foray into country music) is kinda hot. Smile

And let us not forget about the guy who started this post... I care... I CARE !! I have no shame in being a fan of Bon Jovi. Up until Have A Nice Day, they were doing a pretty good job even with the new stuff, I can't stand their last one.

It really *isn't* surprising, I figured they'd pull something like this after Who Says You Can't Go Home went big on the country stations. And besides, they've been dabbling in songs with a slight bit of country going back to Keep The Faith. Still, it's just sad to see'em come out and say something like this. Plus the album isn't being released on Island (their regular label), it's being released by Mercury Nashville.

From what I've read elsewhere, there's plans for another album in the fall, it's rumored to be another greatest hits, although I've also read another studio album is a possibility. Either way, they aren't touring to promote Lost Highway, they'll be touring this fall to promote whatever pops up then.

I think it's cool if they want to do a one-off album like this. I mean, the This Left Feels Right album was largely a country-based album. I actually dig that album because of the fact that the reinterpretations of those old songs are so different. I think that's cool.

Now, if Bon Jovi heads off and sort of becomes this pop country band for good, then I won't respect that. But a one-off album is cool. And I always say good music is good music. Even if it's not something you like, you know a good song regardless. So if it's good, but not something I dig on, I can appreciate that.

That's what I'm hoping for-- that this is a one-off. I've heard the new single (it's a ballad, and Bon Jovi always does good with those), plus the song 'Lost Highway' (more in line with their last album, but still decent). Neither of those songs sound country to me, which is a good thing.

While it's nice they're trying to capitalize on their new country music fans, I hope on the opposite side they're gonna put out a good rock album for the original fans.

You're crazy! Haha.

Dude, lyrically & melodically, a of 'New Jersey', 'Keep The Faith' & especially 'These Days' is very Springsteen influenced...the influence increased with each of those albums...he dropped it by 'Crush'...

This thread makes me sad. Firstly I'm sad that Bon Jovi seems to have become desperate. YES, I am a proud fan!

Secondly I'm sad that people can't see how much talent these guys have always had.

Bon Jovi have always been Springsteen influenced, and unashamedly so. And why not? Can anyone tell me that 99,99 % of theri favorite bands aren't influenced by someone?

Maybe I should listen to more Springsteen, then. Haha.

And I don't think a band doing something like this is a desperate move. Bon Jovi has plenty of fans that them being desperate makes little sense.

Like them or hate 'em, they must be doing something right. How many "hair bands" from the 80's can still put out legitmate hit records, get singles played on regular radio and sell-out arenas in the US? Def Leppard comes close, but even their last tours have been nostalgia treks and they haven't had a real hit in years.

Def Leppard is my all-time favorite band and they're not in the same league anymore. They're not doing nostalgia tours yet; they're still selling out arenas. But they're definitely not as relevant in today's musical climate as Bon Jovi is. I'd say the only other band comparable would be Aerosmith. But they owe their steady mainstream success to the same people Bon Jovi does: outside "hit" songwriters.

Def Leppard tried that on their last album, X, and failed, I think. I just can't respect that as much as I can a band from the 80's running on the second tier—Tesla, Slaughter, Winger, etc.—but recording their own music. Even the Scorpions are pulling in outside, non-band member songwriters now. Sometimes it works, but more often than not it fails.

I thought about using Aerosmith as an example as well, but I was thinking more along the lines of strictly 80's hair bands. The bands that had platinum success, hit songs and could sell-out arenas in minutes and now are struggling to survive. Bon Jovi has far and away surpassed that "hair-band" tag and can make it on their own without looking like a nostalgic act. They pretty much survived the alt/grunge move of the 90's, and didn't have to break-up then cash-in on a "re-union" gig.

Wow. Look at that. I'm defending Bon Jovi's success. What's happened to me? surprised

I feel ya. But I know this to be a fact: if Jon Bon Jovi was ugly, they'd be right there with the rest of the 80's rock band. Dead serious. My friends—two chicks—had two extra tickets to see Bon Jovi on their last tour and my friend Brian and I went because it was free. The woman outnumbered the men 25 to 1—at least! All you could hear was screaming chicks! It was insane. If Jon looked like Lemmy, no way they'd be popular. Haha.

That is actually sad.
