Better Band: Rainbow vs. Testament

Rainbow was way more versatile in that Dio era line up than Testament. I enjoy Testament and, yes, they are talented players but you knew what you were gonna get from platter to platter.

I vote for Dio era Rainbow

Its like comparing apples to oranges.I went with Testament,one of the greatest thrash bands of all time

Wow, what an odd comparison... The only real answer is Testament by a mile. I respect Blackmore and Dio but they don't do much for me overall as where Testament has been a favorite of mine for many years.

Anything fronted by Dio trumps anything else.

Comparing 2 Dio-fronted projects is a universal impossibility. Any attempts to do so will result in the universe as we know it imploding on itself, destroying us all.

Chuck Norris doesn't roundhouse kick ANY DAMN THING without first checking with Dio.

I don't understand where the comparison is, but I prefer Rainbow by a very long shot. Even the Graham Bonnet stuff. I hate his voice, but anything melodic that includes Blackmore beats anything thrashy in my book.

If you like melodic start with Testament's "Ritual" album. I think you'll like that one.

This is me as well. Just not a big thrash fan because of the shouted vocals.

What this all boils down to is there is no earthly reason to compare Rainbow and Testament.

Essentially. Its like asking if you like being kicked in the nuts by a big guy named Steve in the parking lot of Pizza Hut on a Friday night or having your scrotum gently massaged by a 20 year old Thai woman on the beach in 78 degree weather..

Wow. 2 very different bands, 2 very good bands. I voted for Testament only because I've listened to them longer and I've enjoyed more of their cd's. I only got into Rainbow a few years ago and honestly, after RJD left, they kinda went in a more poppier direction that I didn't care for. Both awesome bands, just in totally different ways.

Rainbow after Ronnie James Dio quit became an entirely different band, a more commerical act, one of the first pop metal acts that had little in common with the previous incarnation of the band.

BTW I had a thread I started on Rainbow and no one commented on it.

"All Night Long" has got to have the most insipid lyrics of any Rainbow song, but I have to confess it is a guilty pleasure of mine.

I like the Joe Lynn Turner stuff but it's definitely a different sound than the Dio stuff

Some of the AOR Rainbow stuff was cool...but not nearly on the same planet as the Dio-era...

I can't choose. Both are/were great bands, neither one has an bad album.

Because they are such different bands, I can't really choose. I have been a Testament fan for over a decade while I have only been a Dio-era Rainbow fan for a handful of years, so for I could pick Testament. Rainbow is more melodic and I am a bigger fan of Dio's voice than Chuch Billy's, so I could pick Rainbow. Just not a very easy choice for me.
