| I think we've done similar threads here before, but I couldn't find them. Anyhow, this is where you get to plug a band you rarely see any talk of, but that you really like, and want others to check out.
My band today is TRIOSPHERE. People rave about Evergrey, Circus Maximus and Pagan's Mind, but few people seem to have familiarised themselves with this Norwegian band. This female fronted band has a very unique sound, firmly placed in the heavier side of prog metal. They are not your average keyboard-fluffy Dream Theater copy, but a much more song oriented act. The members are VERY capable musicians, and the songwriting leaves my jaw dropped. Their so far only album, entitled "Onwards" has provided me with hours of great enjoyment, and it grows on me with each listen. Check them out for yourself. _________________

| Outstanding band! Good recommendation. I would say they're closer to tradition heavy metal/power metal than prog-metal. Not that it matters. |

| I had Triosphere-onwards and traded it to Freddy or Scottm(I cant remember). It was decent but nothing that grabbed me enough to hold on to it. My addition will be Hyades.I keep bringing these guys up but I dont think anyone listens .They are a great old school thrash band from Italy.Italy has alot of very good thrash bands and these guys have the Bay Area sound nailed down.Check em out http://www.myspace.com/hyadesband | |

| We were just discussing a good candidate for this thread in the New Additions thread. Stuart Smith's Heaven and Earth. Here's the Sleazeroxx writeup: - Quote :
- Blues based guitar rock seems to be a forgotten genre, and that is too bad because you will find some of the best guitar shredding on those types of albums - a prime example is Heaven & Earth. Guitarist Stuart Smith can make a guitar sing without having to be flashy or pretentious. On this release he has recruited a who's who of hard rock for a collection of songs, ranging from straight-up blues to 70s hard rock, that were recorded between 1997 and 2004.
This truly is an ambitious effort as Stuart and his cohorts skip across genres, refusing to get pigeon-holed into one specific scene. At one moment you will be reminded of early Deep Purple while the next moment you could swear Stevie Ray Vaughan had been reincarnated. With sixteen cuts on Heaven & Earth, I am just going to concentrate on the ones that really stand out for me. One thing I noticed is that every song sung by Kelly Hansen is killer, and it isn't so much because of his voice (although he has great pipes), but because he seems to have been handed the rocking tunes. "Don't Keep Me Waiting" reminded me of a song Glenn Hughes would perform (little did I know Glenn would later show up here) with its rolling beat. "Do You Ever Think Of Me?" is a melodic number with a killer solo and catchy chorus, "Trouble In Paradise" has a Molly Hatchet honky-tonk vibe while "Lose My Number" is just a straight-ahead rocker. Joe Lynn Turner sounds incredible on "Heaven & Earth" and "It's Got To Be Love", but it is "Memories" that I like the best, it reminds me of classic Krokus. I'm giving bonus points for "Dreams Of Desire", which is an instrumental heavily influenced by Johann Sebastian Bach. It's a song that would fit better on a Christmas album, but I like its originality. Guitar aficionados should love Stuart's bluesy soulful licks. As for the songs themselves, rarely do they miss the mark. There is something here for everyone, and samples of each song can be found at www.heavenandearthband.com and www.blackstarrecords.com.

Bon Jovi's Richie Sambora also lends a hand on here, contributing geetar (obviously), dobro & vocals. And a bit o' trivia: Stuart Smith is (was?) married to Heather Locklear's sister, who of course was once married to Richie. Imagine that!

| I never see much here about one of my faves You're All Gonna Die. Sort of Crowbar meets Fireball Ministry or something like that. Good music for a foul attitude. "The Wreck of The Minot" is one of my favorite albums from the last few years. | |

| I'd say generally We're All Gonna Die are faster, heavier, and relatively thrashier than QOTSA. "Evil Red" on that link is a great song, but a little misleading for them. Another great band from Boston. | |

| I didn't say "sounds like" QOTSA; I said "reminds". I hear similarities but they are definitely different. Though that cover of That Smell really DOES sound like QOTSA to me. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

I see what you mean. I haven't kept up with QOTSA as much since the first few, but I think I need to get back into them since I love this sort of stuff.

| My official entry to this thread is NANTUCKET!
The only people I know that know of this band are of my age (yeah, we're old farts!)
Apparently, Nantucket now has a live album out which I will be investigating. I would rather post the studio cuts but here's the link from the live album. Check out Time Bomb, Heartbreaker and Rugburn.
