The Damned were the best of those original british punk bands easy.
Total speed freaks with an ear for a catchy melody and camp theatrics, they weren't to serious just a great rock n' roll band.
The Damned and Motorhead, whats the difference?
Love the first three records, don't have an absolute favourite but songs like "Melody Lee", "New Rose", "Love Song", "Neat Neat Neat", "Noise Noise Noise" and covers of the MC5's "Looking At You" and the Stooges "I Feel Alright (1970)" are my fav Damned raves.
I like the more gothic post-punk stuff stuff that the Damned evolved into by the early 80's as well.
Brian James who left the group after the first two records went on and formed the impossibly better Lords Of The New Church with Stiv Bators.
The Misfits, pffft! Why would i need them when i've got the Cramps and the Damned!
Just for you here's a......

the Damned released a few classic albums such as " Damned, Damned, Damned" and "Machine Gun Etiquette". When I personally think of the classic British punk bands of the 70's my mind goes straight to the usual suspects The Sex Pistols, The Clash, and Siouxise, for some reason I always forget about the Damned who outlasted almost all of their contemporaries. I agree with Rattpoison, really good solid rock n roll band.

These guys are cool too, I really missed them when they were in their "heyday" I was introduced to their music last year and wish I had noticed them earlier.
