That's a shame, just read this on Yahoo News. I met Mr. Melendez about fifteen years ago, he did an autograph signing at an art gallery around here that was selling animation cels from the various "Peanuts" specials. The animation cels were too rich for my blood so I couldn't buy one, but it was nice to hear him tell some stories and to say hi to him.

That is sad news. A Charlie Brown Christmas is still my absolute favorite. I tear up every time Linus recites the scripture from Luke, then turns to Charlie and says "that's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown." It's a nice reminder to put the holiday craziness in perspective.

Interesting story about that moment that I saw Bill Melendrez tell one time. Even for the time, it was a bit controversial to do something that overtly religious, and Bill warned Charles Shultz that they might take some heat for it. Shultz looked at Bill and asked him a simple question. "If we don't do it, Bill, who will?" Bill answered "You're right" and illustrated the scene.
