Sounds a lot like John Tardy from Obituary.

Maybe it's not new and innovative but I have no problem with bands being good at what they do and Warpath are good.

Thrash is not, by definition, any more generic than any other form of music. I know that runs counter to what many current bands would lead you to believe but it is simply not true. Bands like ARTILLERY had incredible playing that wasn't just a cookie-cutter ripoff of SLAYER or whatever. They didn't create a whole new genre of music but they didn't completely emulate another band either. I strongly disagree that thrash requires less creativity.

I would say that overall, thrash is very much in line with punk in terms of variation. Not saying that's a bad thing at all, because I firmly believe good song-writing wins out any day of the week, but thrash is a very streamlined genre, I think.

I disagree. It's no more "streamlined" than power metal, funk, folk, glam rock, or anything else you could name IMHO.
I think you've probably just been listening to the wrong albums.

I'm with ToB, I don't think thrash is any more streamlined, stripped down, by-the-numbers (pick any adjective you want) than any other subgenre. I'd argue it's ever bit as versatile and flexible as every other type of metal.
