I think the world record holder, according to Guiness Book of Records is Marius Paus, from Norway. He plays so fast you can't even hear all the notes, they have a special instrument to record it all with.

I think Marillion's Steve Rothery's words apply here:

"The thing about the guitar is that it's such an emotional instrument, and I'm sure that people would much rather hear a guitar if it's played with emotion and feeling than just racing up and down the fret-board."

Fast playing is a novelty and the only guitarists that are worth their mettle are the ones that can do more. I like speed as much as the next guy but there has to be some substance as well IMO.

I don't believe he was saying anything bad about fast playing, just that there is more to it than that.

That guy is a pretty sick sweeper but thats about it. All those kids commenting on him being a god is funny to me. As for speed he's way too fast imo..
