| It seems that whenever a list is compiled (from magazines, websites, or fans themselves) of the however many greatest albums of all time, that the majority of the albums fall before the mid-90s. However, there have been many greats (metal and rock) released since Grunge plagued the music industry. What are your favourites?
Mine: Megadeth - United Abominations Overkill - Immortalis Helloween - Gambling With The Devil Judas Priest - Nostadamus will surely be a masterpiece |

If you disagree with my choices, that's fine. I respect differences in taste. But, I think you misinterpreted my question. Even though I used the word classics, I asked what are your favourites? In other words, what do you think are recent classics. This has been done before on this board with thrash. People were asked what they consider to be the greatest thrash albums of all time. So, I'm not asking what are your recent favourites (there are albums I enjoy more than the ones I listed); I'm not asking what are classics (i.e. albums that everyone agrees on). Rather, I'm asking what would you consider to be recent classics. In the case of the ones I listed, I happen to think they're classics. But, I like AC/DC's newer albums more than all of the ones I listed. However, I don't think AC/DC's new albums are classics. Oh, and as far as my saying the Grunge Revolution plagued the industry: perhaps I was harsh in my comment (as there was some good music to come out of it), but I was saying it from the perspective of rock/metal purist culture. For those of you who were fortunate to experience the 70s and 80s, did Grunge not damper the feel-good mentality of the era? The culture that emerged was essentially proto-emo. Man, you guys are like hawks. Can't a newbie post in peace? Rodnie Dangerfield was right....no respect, no respect, I tells ya! |

| off the top of my head, I'd have to say:
Warrior Soul - SALUTATIONS FROM THE GHETTO NATION Iced Earth - SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES Savatage - EDGE OF THORNS Bruce Dickinson - ACCIDENT OF BIRTH/THE CHEMICAL WEDDING Fight - WAR OF WORDS
These (among many others) got me thru the Dark Period of the mid to late 90s when "metal" was a dirty word to most people. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| I wonder if we'll ever see a masterpiece released that revives (or, rather, starts) the metal revolution. It seems that revolutionary masterpieces don't come around anymore. |

I wouldn't say "Grunge" plagued the music industry. Ya gotta remember, this being a metal board your not likely to find a lot of love for grunge. I wouldn't be too sure of that. As for "Classic Heavy Metal" records released during and after "Grunge" broke (say 1992) these would be a few of mine: Warrior Soul - Salutations From The Ghetto Nation Trouble - Manic Frustration Kik Tracee - Field Trip Love/Hate - Wasted In America The Cult - The Cult The Wildhearts - p.h.u.q. Galactic Cowboys - Space In Your Face Terrorvision - How To Make Friends And Influence People Kyuss - Welcome To Sky Valley Clutch - Clutch King's X - Tapehead

Your kidding right? I don't think that culture was about self-loathing and 'woe is me' as it is commonly thought and neither is the emo culture about that either. Some pretty adventurous and at times ground breaking hard rock/rock n' roll came out of Seattle which didn't tow Hollywood Hair's inane party line. Seattle was the blessing in disguise for Heavy Metal, it made bands wake up and push the limits. And helped Heavy Metal move and change instead of being stuck.

...no. I'm far from a grunge fanatic, but to imply bands like Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains are 'proto-emo' just isn't right ;P _________________ | |
