I was introduced to Gilby through Guns'n'Roses in the fall of 2004, when my then-Guns'n'Roses obsession (which lasted a year) began. For the longest time, I was after some of his solo material, which is surprisingly difficult to find in stores (aside from that new hits album). I finally caved and ordered his live album off the net. I was blown away. It's not revolutionary rock, but it's old-school, good-time rock'n'roll. Stylistically, his solo work is similar to G'n'R, albeit less aggressive. He was also in a band before G'n'R called Kills For Thrills. I scored of a copy of their debut at a Vancouver used store last December (right before heading to the Van Halen show....there's nothing like drunk cd shopping....except I accidentally bought a Primal Scream cd, mistaking it for Primal Fear, lol).
What do you guys think of his work? And before you say it, yes, Supernova was horrendous.

I have all his solo stuff and his Kill For Thrills disc. I think Pawnshop guitars is his best album even though Axl totally ruins the cover of "Dead Flowers".

Gilby also participated in a side project with Stray Cats' Slim Jim Phantom called Col. Parker. That's a solid rock disc!

I have 2 of his cd's, Pawnshop Guitars and another one which I can't remember the name at the moment. I like 'em well enough I guess, but honestly, it's been awhile since I gave 'em a spin. I liked the "Dead Flowers" cover, but I'm a bit of an Axl fan-boy.
EDIT: A quick look at Gilby's discography reminded me that the 2nd disc I own is either The Hangover or Rubber. I know I owned both at one time, but I'm pretty sure I got rid of one of them, possibly Rubber.

Not very familar with his solo material although his choice of cover songs is great and he has produced and mentored some great bands particuarly one of the greatest lost bands of the 90's the Beat Angels.
And Kill For Thrills are pretty dissapointing.
But before Gilby was in Kill For Thrills he was in one of my favourite bands ever. Candy. They made this amazing powerpop record in 1985 that is worshipped by pop rock freaks all over. All 3 minute snapping Raspberries derived songs about teen alienation and not wanting to grow up.
The record itself is impossible to get. It's never been reissued. Even though when the whole reissuing craze started it would have been top priority. The thing is their is some legal issues and rumours circulate that Gilby didn't play on the record but Raspberries guitarist Wally did. All this has helped feed the growing myth around what is one of most stunning rock n' roll records i have heard and no one else has.
Members went onto form the criminally underrated Electric Angels and then the godly Loveless.
Heres a clip of Candy's Whatever Happened To Fun (Gotta love the haircuts, Gilby is the one with the pink guitar) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rnGbYOJn_I
Edit: I have the album available to download if anyone want's it.

I think I have most if not all his solo discs. I like them, but he's always struck me as one of those songwriters that's almost there. His songs are good, but never quite get beyond that. No problems there, of course. Good is good. But I'd like to hear something great from the guy.
You can pick it up at Amazon zShops for less than $5 incl. shipping.

Not that many will care, but Gilby has a new once coming out at the end of April...The Gospel Truth
I've come to enjoy his brand of simple, loose, Stonesy rock n roll. Nothing fancy or world shifting, but quite enjoyable. His previous albums are still relatively inexpensive and easy to find, if you are so inclined.
