Which would you recomend as a starting point? Vocalist Bob Catley impressed me enough on Ayreon and Avantasia for me to want to check them out.

I was going to get a large CD haul from this used CD store that had a great selection last time I went there (last September) but the damn place closed down angry

So I used the money to go towards a new CD player for my car (my old one would only play CDs when the car engine was off) at Best Buy. I didn't want to leave empty handed so I got these:

Soilwork-Sworn To A Great Divide
Threshold-The Ravages Of Time
Firewind-The Premonition (Shocked the hell out of my to see this at best buy so I snatched it up without a second thought-usually for something like this I have to go to Virgin).

I felt the same way with Bob Catley especially after I heard the song The Story Aint Over on Avantasia. But surprisingly though Magnum doesnt really do any songs like that and his voice sounds a little different, but they are still good. Their newer stuff is a little on the lighter side but their older stuff is a little more rockish. I would Definetly recommend "On A Storytellers Night" im selling it on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=300210200547&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT&ih=020. its not the double cd version but if your not sure your going to like them or not then its probably a good way to go, cause the 2 cd version is around $20 or more.

Thanks and I figured it wasn't like that after I read their profile in wikipedia but I like all sorts of rock so it is worth looking into.

Do you already have their latest double live album?? I bought it some weeks ago and its a killer. You get on cd 1 4 songs from the last album and some classics(two from ON A STORYTELLERS NIGHT) but the interesting thing is the second cd with all the songs from their WINGS OF HEAVEN album (from 86), TOTALY LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!! recorded last year. The name of this live album is WINGS OF HEAVEN LIVE and you must buy it if you are a MAGNUM fan.

No I havent bought that. I wasnt really going to because I didnt really want to buy too many more live albums from certain bands. But i'll possibly pick it up one day. I have their first one Marauder though but I ended up getting that one on accident. I forgot that one was a live album it wasnt bad though.

Testament- First Strike Still Deadly (re issue) I thought this Testament cd looked wierd and I remembered they were re issued but I bought it anyway cause I never had a the original version just a copy. The artwork is wierd on this one as well on the Demonic reissue too. I dont like either.

I think that "new" artwork for First Strike Still Deadly is just the artwork that was originally on the Japanese pressing.
